I've never seen such chromatic aberration on any phone camera's pictures, it more than horrible. Between the boughs you can nearly see a rainbow as a result of chromatic aberration, it's like a joke. It's only an excuse that it's a pre-production unit, because starting from K850 the final version, or even the software updates doesn't resulted better image quality. Since the K750 the C901 was the best cameraphone from Sony (Ericsson) -without being the long avaited One Sony . I dont't even know it's sensor is from Sony or not -I remember there were lots of discussions about that, but in recent years it had the best phone camera. The Exmor R sensors in Xperias were good, but the post processing was not that good, and low light pictures are not as good as they say.
Why can't a smartphone meet at least C901's camera, (in terms of quality, xenon flash, etc.) in a compact size?

Looks like Sony has opened up ordering for retail websites. Just ordered mine in the US for $360. It should be here in < 3 weeks I expect.

Yes, carrier unlocked (sim free) since it was not bought through a carrier.

Edit: also the Xperia SP has been added to the boot loader unlock website.

quite a good review on the Xperia SP

http://unleashthephones.com/2013/04/07/sony-xperia-sp-review/

does anyone know if Sony working on update for camera? surely this is more of a SW problem...such a shame that such a lovely phone is let down by lousy camera software...and that from SONY who make some of the best cameras out there!

Xperia SP review - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_sp-review-924.php

As suspected the camera is crap... If only Sony would put the same camera as in Xperia P and magnetic sensor, this would be an awesome phone, but now it's shitty :
