I'd hardly call 4.3" small but anyway If it gets released it'll be for the Japanese market only, much like the SX. I'm pretty sure there is no global (or at least European) release planned.

If there is it's not going to be a 2013 release or even announcement.

mini is cool - but i love my 5" screen. not sure i can go back hahaha..

though it's great for those who like a smaller form factor. awesome that they can pack just about all the same specs into that small package.

I agree! Global release in January and December release in Japan.

On top of that it will have an excellent IPS display.

Sony Mobile aims to ship 65 million smartphones in fiscal 2014

Each of the three ODMs are likely to snap up orders for 2-4 models from Sony Mobile in the next fiscal year, revealed the sources, adding that combined orders received by Taiwan-based handset ODMs from the Japan-based vendor are likely to grow over 50% in fiscal 2014.

In addition to releasing Qualcomm-based smartphones, Sony Mobile also plans to increase its offerings to include MediaTek-based models, the sources noted.

Additionally, Sony Mobile also plans to launch its first Firefox-based smartphone in 2014 targeting emerging markets as well as the entry-level to mid-range smartphone segment.

---------------------------------

65 million - 16.25 million phones per quater.

@ Dacha what do you mean by excellent IPS display? as far as I know Z1 also has an excellent IPS display? I'm praying for Crystal-LED wait CLED is not IPS as it doesn't have filter.
btw anything about the price of Z1 mini? I'm planning to get a phone in Seotember 2014 and my budget doesn't exceed 400USD.

I have heard the same about two weeks ago and now my source is telling me that he had a hands on with the Z1 mini and his source told him that it will use a IPS-IGZO type screen as the iPhone 5S.

We will see how thing go. My fear is that Japan will get the IGZO tyoe display and the rest of the world the lottery.

Just want to tell you something base on some analysis on current price points. If the Z and ZL(6506) is still selling for over $500 in the US, you better save up at least an extra $200. If not, you're going to be dreaming the impossible with that budget of yours if you want to buy the Z1 mini.

"A SMALLER handset with specs similar to the Z1 is just not happening, trust me on this"-----4.3 inch is smaller than 5 inch

"I'm pretty sure there is no global (or at least European) release planned." ------your "pretty sure" just change within a post to "not this year"

Seriously don't act like you know if you actually don't know.

I know some things. Not everything of course. But from what I've heard and learned over the last years I can safely say that there is no smaller high-end phone planned for a global/European release or announcement in 2013 anymore. What happens from next year onwards or in Japan are things I don't know anything about.
