That's why 99 of 100 people have Sony phones.

Am I the only one who would be happy with a 4" screen Xperia, below 120 g, below 120*65mm with Xenon flash, OIS, nHd or HD screen, for about 350 max 400 euro?
Does everybody really need 5"+ screen, 140+ g weight, 13 mp+ camera (picture quality doesn't matter), and 600-700 euro+ price just for the (best of) Sony label? And is the presence of Xenon flash, OIS and compact size is higly undesirable?

For example the rumoured Honami mini would be interesting for me, but it will lack the Xenon flash, OIS, and price will be surely above 500 euro. But maybe I'm wrong, and the majority would be happier with this latter device, than the imaginary phone what I described.

imo, good for sells (i'm not hinting at any particular phone):
* huge marketing and fast release date all around the world
* top spec that delivers, especially VISIBLE spec = like BIG screen with screaming colors and great viewing angles, xenon flash, expensive design. "look at the screen the colors are so strong, wow this phone looks really sleek and premium! and just like a camera! now i don't need a camera!"
* popular and simple OS and UI = android - good camera with xenon won't help if the OS is not popular (lumia 1020)
* unique features and bells and whistles

what do you think about my thoughts? i tried to dig into consumer's mind.

And as long as the 20 mp sensor gives this quality at full resolution, it doesn't make sense to implement 20 mp in phones.

Btw, I've already seen worse low light shots too by Z1. But without comparing to anything, at full size you can say that is has poor quality.

It seems so that it does make more sense than implementing 41Mp or 4MP, doesn't it?

FAKE

Though I do WISH it were true

What we know so far about Z2

5.2 inch 1080p Triluminos
MSM8974AB 2.3 ghz
3 GB RAM
20.7 MP camera
4K Video Capture

So basically a minor upgrade to Z1

If Sony ends up using MSM8974AB for Z2 than they will be using this years tech in a 2014 flagship and will lag behind the competition like they did with Z. New 20 nm mobile processors will be announced at CES and Sony better use those to be competitive specs wise.

I was wondering for what purpose was the big circular surface surrounding the lens on maia's "mystery device" for, then suddenly the thought of the Coolpix A and Ricoh GR design popped out of head.

for those that are not aware these cameras are non-zoom large sensor bodies that uses retracting lens barrel rather than the fixed lens design on the RX1. Now that thing is could it be that the mystery device is using the same lens design as the other two in order for Sony to be able to fit a much larger sensor than the Z1? judging by the ~10mm profile if such spec were to be considered that thing can fit as large as a 1" type sensor, eliminating the prominent hump when not using the camera, the pop up lens mechanism could be propelled by tiny motors that drives and retracts the camera lens barrel to its ideal flange distance to achieve the desired focal length value. this might be a fragile design but come to think about it, if it's able to integrate such large sensor without the prominent hump on the back then that's brilliant imo!, Anyway that's just my thoughts.

I'd be glad to have such a small sacrifice for a greater benefit not everyone scuba dives with their smartphone nor have them slip though their toilet

it could completely compromise water proof. I'm just guessing. anything moving parts not covered by a sealed flap is a hazard to water proof. who knows if sony can come up with a innovation solution for this problem.

@ XperiaCute
the back is not glossy, though it's still about the same size as the Z1, what is that suppose to mean? the Z2 prototype?

Indeed. I hope Sony starts releasing phones when new socs arrive. The Z1 release lined up nicely with the release of s800. Previous phones (all of them ) were release just before a new soc was coming which is the worst time to release a phone

I believe Sony will Only announce Xperia Z1 mini at CES 2014 ||=

then maybe by 2Q\3Q 2014 they will announce Next ( Xperia Z + Xperia Ultra ) which most likely will feature the up-Coming Qualcomm Soc .

^I want the same sensor but MP count down to 16 or even 13 MP. That way, the pixel size would be significantly larger to reduce noise (if my theory is correct based on what I'd been reading). At 13 MP it already has a lot of detail, 16 MP would be beneficial for downsampling or pixel binning.
