There is a comparison on the web between G2, IPhone, S4, HTC and Lumia 1020 cameras.

All pictures taken is a dark room. Very impressed with the G2 pictures. Has less noise than even the Lumia in my opinion. Hope to see a shootout with Honami in the near future. I am sure OIS on the G2 definitely helped in the lowlight conditions that the pictures were taken in. Would be disappointing if the Honami didnt offer some sort of hardware stabilisation.
Not really sure how OIS would help with low-light imaging. Isn't it put to use the most in Video capture? |

OIS allows you to use longer exposure times with lower ISO and that gives you lower noise
Lower noise leads to less processing and more details.

In low light the camera would use lower shutter speeds and higher ISO. OIS would help immensely when handholding with low shutter speeds. In the DSLR world good OIS lenses help gain from 1 to 2 stops.

This would be awesome... a lightning fast release, differently from previous Sony devices! pretty neat!
And also there would be enough time for the price to decrease for christmas |

Ois is better than no ois everything else being equal, i think everyone is reasonable enough to agree.
But Ois is not the only way to reduce noise.
Building great sensors to allow to push into higher iso with same noise is another way.
No ois does not imply less good camera than competition, the whole camera as a package needs to be compared, which includes IMO the usability/use cases.
I guess that people using dslr here know that their fastest lens are generally not stabilised. Sony with the alpha line is actually in the minority as they have inbody IS, they stabilise even fast lens.
September 4 could not come sooner, then we will at least compare actual specs and see reviews and like for like, whole package comparisons. I do wish for the camera-phone fans that sony has a surprise cybershot phone for them, but IMO that would be a niche device and would not outsell Honami or take on the galaxy s4 or iphone5s. Sony may just not have room for this.

Interesting, that could mean an even earlier release in Parts of Asia like Hong Kong, I had read somewhere that the Z1 would be available in HK right after the 4th possibly as early as the following week - why not |
