Well. Xperia phones are not very popular in North America.

They didn't put effort that much, many complicated and dilemma situations with carriers

- carriers network differences GSM / CDMA
some hope on SoftBank buy out Sprint would help but as Shotakun mention earlier, Sony and SoftBank didn't even partnet in Japan itself. The last CDMA from Sony maybe Xperia Play with Verizon which was a flopped

- carriers taken over-control and bloatware
Sony didn't want too much bloatware integrated, and it create damages in carriers relationship, unlike Korean or Taiwanese that more compromised.

- latest move on with Xperia Z on T-Mobile, is quite interesting and I hope they can manage it right this time. (eventually it was release four months late from globally schedule)

- http://www.usatoday.com/story[....]laxy-s4-active-review/2455185/ I think Sony need to show it play when come to take picture underwater

I can confirm no Honami on July 4th. Honami will not be announced before August.

Hmm, I'm thinking most places are speculating that the July 4th event is for Honami and don't have actual confirmation.

I've been looking at the photos of the leaked phone and something still feels off. I mean, Honami has a camera sensor roughly 4x the surface area of the Xperia Z, but the lens is just about the same size. Can someone more knowledgable about this sort of thing answer if that should technically be possible? The phone being a couple of millimeters thicker might be a factor in that too, but is that enough to allow for such a dramatic increase in sensor size while maintaining the lens size?

I still do wonder if that device is indeed Honami and not the Z refresh.

EDIT.

Then that raises the question of wtf is being announced July 4th? It doesn't make sense to announce the Z Ultra again and the smartwatch has already been unveiled. The invite obviously refers to a phone with stylus capabilities.

So... either another phone that's not Honami or a tablet? I suppose it could be the Z Ultra gain, but really it makes no sense when it was already unveiled to the world just a week earlier.

What I assume from reading the last pages is Sony is going to announce Xperia Z Ultra and updated Z on July 4th and Xperia Honami at IFA.

I believe there are 3 possibilities

1. The teaser image had a render error and showed a camera key, only Z Ultra will be shown to local press in France

2. A smaller version of Z Ultra with LED flash and Stylus will be shown, around 6 inches

3. Updated Z with S800 will be unveiled.

Out of these No.1 scenario is most likely.

Hrmm, now we also have to face the news from unknownC151A that the phone he saw was the one in the leaked pics, and it had a 20MP camera. So if all that is accurate, then what does it mean? Does that mean that IS Honami? Could the Z refresh be getting the same sensor as Honami with no xenon flash?

Trying to piece together this mystery is fun

We don't know if that phone recently leaked is Honami. But I can confirm it runs a 20MP camera and it's code is C690X.

I don't really follow the code numbers, has C690X been identified as Honami in any other sources?

Well Spectre51 did confirm C690X codename for Honami.

The leaked pics might be an older prototype as well of the Honami.

Ok, so I guess we proceed with the assumption that the pic is Honami until we hear differently. Still curious about the lens size though

I wonder where Sony plans to go with these attachable lenses. Are they going to form a brand new lens ecosystem for mobiles? Are they just a few random accessories that'll never be seen again after Honami? I wonder...

Unknown13x, would you be kind enough to clear the confusion? Is the leaked device "Honami" ?

Maybe the real camera centric Sony phone is codenamed "tsunami"?

Over on XDA one of the mods krabappel2548 claims to have system files from Honami. Here's what he had to say:

http://forum.xda-developers.c[....].php?p=43063146&postcount=3372

- X-Reality Engine
- Snapdragon 800, MSM8974 2.3GHz
- Adreno 330
- 2GB RAM
- 5" screen like XZ
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Atheros WLAN
- Pedometer sensor
- And I'm guessing it will have the rumored MX or MM (or whatever it was again) audio chip because I found a build.prop line about 5.1 DD audio output I think

So it seems to be X-Reality rather than Bravia Engine 3. IIRC in a Youtube vid where they were showing Z Ultra, they also mentioned X-Reality engine.

EDIT.

He also confirmed the camera can go up to ISO 12800 and has steadyshot modes as well
