There are a lot of people saying that the design of the S3 is 'boring' and 'ugly'... whilst this may be true, there is a very important reason behind it: The Galaxy S3 is the first phone entirely designed by lawyers! The designers weren't allowed to have their input.
Although this may seem crazy, it's Samsung's effort to avoid infringing Apple's many design patents; basic design features that must not be replicated, such as:
'a rectangular product shape'
'all four corners of the device being uniformly rounded'
Samsung has implemented the design in order to avoid breaking these very restrictive guidelines:

Apple makes great products but they have some of the most generic patents ever filed. Virtually all phones seem to infringe both design paradigms, including my 5 year old K550, which still works of course.
