The 808 is not the best camera, its the best cameraphone. Along the way it could produce better images than many compact cameras, and it in certain conditions it can hang with some of the bigger ones.
Its a perfect device for someone who likes photography and want to have a decent camera on them at all times, that's all there is to it.
I also use it as my main smartphone, and it does the job just fine 
Its just a very cool device from and engineering stand point. It was, and still is, way ahead of its time when it comes to imaging, and even overall convergence to a certain extend. You will have a hard time finding a device that can do everything the 808 can do.

You don’t want to see the cons. about 808
Surely it’s one of the best cameraphone judging the resolution, but lacks in a lot of other aspects: colors, dynamic range, speed, high iso, fixed lens.
I will never like a camera that force every time to boost the saturation to max, just like 808, with wrong colors. That you can see in the photo gallery.
If you show a photo to your friends/family, do you show it with pixel peer or resized at maybe 1024x768? Probably the 2nd. In that case I will not “have hard time finding a device that can do everything the 808 can do”, there are way better pics taken by Lg Renoir, a 5 years old cameraphone. Looking them resized look surely better than 808 pics.
For someone Nokia 808 can matches Rx100, Gx7 and bla bla bla bla.

I do agree with you to a certain extent as I myself feel that 90% of digital images (cellphones or not /that are taken by the average consumer) are likely not ever shared larger than 1024x768. But when it comes to PHONES on the market nothing right now you've gotta be kidding me if you don't think the 808 is at the top of the heap.
But kind of to your point... here is a picture I took with my N95 back in November of 2008...
Nothing special about it - particularly - but if I posted this on a social media site or MMS'd to a friend, I bet 10 out of 10 people would never know it was taken with a phone almost 10 years old. People sometimes (IMO) just get way carried away with wanting to say they have the BEST of whatever....

Interesting.... I looked at each set of photo's and before hovering over to see which phone shot each image, I made my choice of which I liked best.... I picked the 1020 all but one time when I picked the 808. hmmmm

Still prefer the 808 as it is the mobile phone that displays the images with more accurate colors, better tuned dynamic range and lower noise. |

The difference isn't that big post the black update, and that's the thing.. for me to upgrade I need to see substantial improvements in all areas, including video and flash performance.
OIS, RAW, and shutter speed control, are the only real/substantial advantages the 1020 has over the 808, at least from what I've seen. Its just not enough for me to switch.
The next one maybe.. better SoC/DSP, probably even a better sensor. |

I love my 808, is the best convergence between an excellent phone and an excellent camera. I love the photos it takes, rivals any point and shoot, the free worldwide GPS feature is great, fm transmitter, Symbian (doesnt lag like the Samsung Lag-axy S4) etc etc... to bad Nokia turned into a WP bitch and closed the Symbian store, some devs said they were still experiencing 30,000+ downloads every month from the top apps in the Ovi Store.
I tried Windows Phone (Lumia 925, 1020) and some Android (Samsung S3, S4, HTC One X) and I keep coming back to my 808 Pureview, why would that be? because is nice awesome!!!
I have also a BB10 phone, the closest thing to Symbian in terms of OS features. But the camera is shit and the battery life is nowhere near my beloved 808.

glad to hear that you enjoy your Nokia 808 so much however i don't understand why you feel the need to justify it by trashing other phones: i.e. "Samsung Lag-axy S4" . Also just out of curiosity how is BB10 the closest to symbian in terms of features? What features does it have that android doesn't?
In terms of email/web browsing/sheer number of apps - symbian doesn't come even close to WP/Android

Its all relative I don't need all that many apps to be honest, and Symbian comes with a lot of important ones built into the OS...
Also a lot of the apps for android are simply replacements for what you can do in the browser if you open a web page of that particular service. For example I have to do this for all of my bank accounts since non of the US based banks offer an application for Symbian.
There are a few trendy apps missing of course, and that number will grow.. like snapchat, instagram, etc.
As far as bb10, it multitasks as good as Symbian, and it also runs on a RTOS kernel, just like Symbian They are both very clean OSs.
So now, tell me what more can you do on a android device that I won't be able to do on my 808 ? You will find that its all relative because significance for those things vary between different people.
I have no issues with my 808 when it comes to day-to-day smartphone duties.. it works perfectly fine, and its also an amazing camera. As soon I see something better on the market, I will switch, its just that I don't see anything that can fully replace it. There are a few devices that do certain things better, but as a whole, nothing grabs my attention.

A lot of things actually:
I live in UK BTW so :
* i watch sky go/ virgin tv anywhere/sun goals/bt sports/nba game time on my mobile phone
* pingit app here to easily send money.
* banking app- here in UK you have 3-4 different pin codes if you access banking through the browser- only 1 is necessary through the banking app
* video call not limited to skype on Symbian (is that even working properly on Symbia)
* for a lot of things web browser is not a proper replacement i.e. eurosport website doesn't have notifications
* proper exchange support for email
* i won't even go into the high quality games available on symbian
* web browser not just the quality of browsing but stuff like sync of bookmarks to the desktop browser- i.e. start browsing on the mobile and then continue browsing on the desktop. adding a bookmark on the desktop and automatically saving it on the mobile phone browser
* music store/video store
*photo editing (not chaging the contrast etc but proper photo editing)
etc, etc
I get that Nokia 808 is enough for some people- but like i said you can enjoy it without having to start bashing everything else outhere and proclaim that Nokia 808 is the best smartphone

You can edit photos on the 808 and it supports exchange servers just fine, I use it every day. The rest.. yes... impossible to do on the 808  |
