Anyone who has any basic understating of photography in general will pick the 808 over the 1020.. its a no brainer.
In the Sylwester's case.. its obvious since he a very capable photographer. |

Of which so am I, however since the phone was never available in the UK and still to this day holds a ridiculous price to either have it imported or a second hand unit, justifying that purchase to your partner, wife or parents makes the phone completely out of reach.
Ive wanted the 808 since day one just for its camera, but could never get one.
Now we have a device with us that is just as capable, which I still believe it is pending updates of the app, but available free on contracts now that its actually supported by the local networks will pick the 1020.
The last time I checked the 808 was £550+ in the UK, that's £550 for a phone which is now becoming more obsolete not by the month but by the day. If photography is that important, i'd rather spend that money on a pretty decent DSLR camera. The 1020 I can get for free on a contract which is only £34 a month.

You should get the 1020 .. I think it might be a good fit for your needs. I was talking about people that actually passionate about photography.. there is no way someone like that would downgrade to a 1020, it makes no sense.
For some strange reason the 808 went up in price since the 1020 came out .. not sure why. It was selling for under $400 two months ago and now you can't find a new one under $450 |

But that's exactly the point im making, which you're missing !
The 808 is a brilliant device and im completely passionate about photography - but the 808 is totally out of reach and not a viable option for almost everybody now.
If you are that passionate about photography, you'd just buy a DSLR. They're priced about the same as a 808 for a basic setup which can achieve the same results as a 808 which you can slowly build on with new lenses, filters, flashes, tools and such..
(why on earth would you go to the silly effort of buying a cameraphone which does less and less and the weeks go on)

The 808 got up in price, because it's out of production and a collector's item now, not because the 1020 was launched.
We could've sold our 808 (not in daily use anymore, still in excellent condition), for more, than what we've paid for it. Didn't do that though, it deserves a place in our little collection, with N95, N95 8GB, N8, etc.
It's simple: people buy from the cheapest shops, so they're out of stock first, when production stops, hence only the more expensive shops are left.

I see.. so if you can find one in your local store for $100 unlocked you would buy it ?
I have a DSLR .. an old Canon XTi, but overall I prefer my 808 |

I had a Canon 350D with two lenses most of the time who was lying in a drawer.
I decided to sell and buy a 808 I do not regret I've done a lot of great pictures.
SLR camera of course great but 808 have always with you.
A year ago, I came across the website by chance I saw pictures cu015170 Esato and fell in love in the 808

I agree with you !
The 808 in the hands of "Cu015170" surpasses photographically easily any smartphone or compact digital camera launched in the world !
P.S: I hope someday to be as good as him ! |

In his hands it would certainly be impossible, it is undeniable!
In Your hands a 808 would become one Xperia S (crap camera) !
But here I am talking about someone actually decent, with photographic knowledge, who knows the equipment and know how few extract maximum potential !
Cu015170 is an excellent photographer (The best of all the Esato) !
P.S: Besides, no one here talked to you or asked you opinion (Forget me man, I do not want to talk to you) !

Well I am glad you did because your additions to the esato album bring a ton of photographic inspiration and beauty! Keep up the good work
I've been very busy with work and all, but I am planning on having a few photo sessions in the next few weeks, hopefully a low light one in San Francisco as well which should bring some interesting frames
