Just for fun would be the only legitimate reason.

Another Sony RX100 comp. For some reason in China the RX100 shows as DSC-MER instead of RX100

The 808 pics are downscaled to match the resolution of the RX100

Overall the RX100 is better, but the difference isn't all that big.. at least in those particular cases. Regardless, in terms of flexibility the RX100 is superior..

And I thought the 808 took the better pictures in these examples. The Sony ones look really blurred / over processed / grainy.

These two make a good case of pixel density vs. pixel size ...

I still think that the RX100 will outperform the 808 on a per pixel basis, but with downsizing the 808 gets pretty close in certain cases.

I am amazed at how well the 808 holds detail at higher resolutions. To be honest when I got it I thought that anything over 10Mpix would look pretty bad, but you can push this thing into the 16-18Mpix bracket and if you keep the iso @ 50 you will be getting pretty decent IQ.

That Toshiba sensor and the optics are not perfect, but for the size... quite the achievement.

Thanks for sharing !

The 5 photos published in the comparison, at least 2... 808 fared better, in other 2 RX100 fared better and there was a photo 1 clear tie !

Not bad... Once the sensor is greater RX100, the lenses are better, and RX100 has OIS !

A lil sunday rant:

Nokia has no respect for the more than 20 million Symbian users... decided to get the Sony Honami instead of a 1020. buying another Nokia (or a Microsoft Lumia in the near future) will fuel their continuous BS they keep doing the last few years.

Thanks for the good moments Nokia, i will continue to use my 808 as my main phone until the API support blows up.

Well it had to happen at some point didn't it ?

Im not exactly happy with the decision but to be honest, Symbian phones are no longer mainstream phones. Anyway, it'll just be like how it was prior to the store ever being live. I used to put apps on my phones through downloading them from sites and then loading them onto the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The only difference being those apps will be harder to find.

This news just illustrates that Symbian phones in general are no longer a viable option. Not even the 808.

Sunday Rant Pt II

You've known for at least two years that this day would come. Do you really think Nokia gives a crap about your pointless stance.
Sadly and I really mean sadly Symbian/Belle is dead and by association so is the 808 regardless of how many declining users there still are.

Having said that if I was as good a photographer as Sylwester id have kept one of one my 808's for life. Id love to see what results he could get with a 1020.

He doesnt seem to comment much in these threads but continues to post some fantastic pictures !!

Which is what frustrates me about the 1020 thread. There little to no point in comparing the 808 and 1020 anymore. Everything for the 808 and Symbian is ending. They stopped manufacturing it early this year, now the store isn't accepting apps (in a couple of months) not to mention nobody even sold the damn thing meaning if you wanted one you really had to search and pay cash for it sim free, in the UK at least.

So here we are wanting to discuss the future, the 1020, to find we're stuck in the 808 thread repeating what is essentially the same discussion because the 1020 thread is locked.

The 808 sadly is dead as much as Symbian is. Nokia killed it, nobody else did. People in the 1020 thread were discussing the two but theres no point. I wouldn't compare the 1020 with my old Sony DSC-P71 from 2003 since regardless of image quality, one I cannot buy, its gone, deceased, no longer existing.

The few 808's which were made and are still available via ebay should be kept as collectors items. The camera is currently still the best in the cameraphone world but that's not enough to keep it in the limelight. Ive wanted one since the day it was announced but never had the chance to get one.

Every thing you say is correct Etaab and I totally agree with you.

I have just bought my 1020 and only because it is the best cameraphone behind the 808, I do not want to discuss nor compare the attributes of the two of them I was just musing what results an experienced 808 user like Sylwester would get with the 1020, he has produced some of the best photos on here that ive seen.

I still think the 1020 is every bit as capable as the 808. I believe its where it falls short of the 808 is the Nokia Pro Camera app, which clearly needs more options for the user to decided between a raw image and one which has been processed by means of sharpening, saturation boosting etc.

Nokia need to listen to the complaints and update the app. If they did, everyone would be like " 808 who ?? "

Nokia Pro Camera is unnecessary application does not raise the quality of pictures I do not use!
95% of the pictures I posted on Esato is an original photograph taken without enhancers were not edited.
Nokia 808 is a smartphone for people who love the photos, of all the others is in second place!

Well it is a necessary app, since without it the 1020 is forced to use the default WP camera app, which cannot take 41mp pictures.

So that's not strictly true, is it ?
