Right.....I have the chance of getting hold of a very cheap Nokia 808 (this will be my 3rd if I go for it) and am seriously considering taking the plunge again.
Can any of you seasoned 808 users tell me what the state of play is with accessing my gmail (email only, no contacts or calendar sync is needed). Although I wont be using this as my daily driver I would still need access to that account.
Also, is the Nokia Maps, voice guided satnav solution still working ?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi lemmy31,

The 808 works pretty much for everything. I don't know Gmail but I use Outlook.com email and contacts sync. Works fine.

There is an article for Gmail in AAS on how to configure email (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/15958_How_to_sync_email_contacts_and.php)

For SatNav, works perfect. Offline navigation and everything. I use this a lot when traveling, along with the FM Transmitter.

And lets not forget about the amazing camera. With the camera, in Creative Mode enable the Vivid option and increase Saturation + 2 and Sharpness +3. Voilá, you will have warmer pictures that resemble any 2014 phones (SGS5, 1020).

Try that and let me know what you think.

I remember using Gmail on my old N8. As for the S5 having had one & it was stolen I think although the camera is good it is not the best

I was under the impression that Google had stopped gmail through active sync (early this year) and that now you would need something like Neuvasync for accessing gmail. I thought that if you already had an account setup you were Ok but if you had to rest your phone or open a new account up then it wouldn't work ?

I had Gmail working fine on my old Symbian handsets but I thought that Google has stopped ActiveSync to move to the CardDav/Caldav protocol. If you had an account setup you were fine but if you tried to set up anew account it wouldn't work

Mine goes trough imap, but I don't remember if I had it set up before they took away active sync, or if imap is affected by any of that.

Here are my settings in case you need a reference

But just to be sure, ask Steve ... he would know for sure

They still have the 808 ahead in terms of IQ, but just by one point which is basically saying that they are on par.. but if you look at photos from all of the phones you will see that this isn't the case.

The difference in video recording is a bit strange as well..

And then you have the LED flashes outperforming xenon ... GS5 has a score of 82 for flash and the 808 has 81
