Is there anyone still using a symbian UIQ device? |

I was watching Salt on telly the other night and spotted the Sony Ericsson P1 being used. Now that is an old device, and the movie is 2010, which was a while since UIQ had "died"!
So I am curious, is there anyone out there still using devices running UIQ? Which ones?
The P Series will always have a special place in my heart!

I know of one guy using the p990i with the flip off who says that he will not be using any other phone. He says that that is the best phone ever. So there you go. I loved mine and had to sell it to help to college bills.

The P990? That is something else. As much as I enjoyed it, the RAM issues were too much to handle, even with SMan it was a struggle. A good device nonetheless. I have my P910 stashed away, battery is way to useless to even contemplate using.

In terms of Esato members, i know Dups! and Amawanqa (both SA Members here) are still enjoying their P1s.
WRT the P990, i realy liked it, despite its issues, i loved its design and feature combo. I've never owned a UIQ smartphone, came close to getting a W960, but thats it, but ive used most of them, from the P800 to the P1, the lovely M600 being an exception, and i liked it, must be the 1st mobile OS with a very well thoughtout UI, but i preferred S60 due to its apps, games, hardware and mod community.

I still have my P990 and use it as a spare phone should needs arise. I'd use it with the flip on to function as a normal phone which it does quite well. Yes, it was plagued with the issue of having max 13-15mb free RAM all the time, how could we have survived that?! Nevertheless, multitasking was never it's strong suit and what other things it does, it does well. Will not use the stylus anymore, looks so dated

Had it not been for the ram issues the p990i would have been one of the greatest phones. I just could not understand why  built it without sufficient ram. It was the last phone from I bought. I spent us$500 to get it and felt ripped off.

Yep, as Tsepz_GP wrote, I am still using my P1i. I also have the P910i in excellent working condition in its box.
I recently had the Droid Razr but sold it after two months cause it wasn't good for my needs. I am more of a physical (portrait) QWERTY plus touch interface person so I went back to the P1i, I will still get a full touch phone for my second line in the near future but my primary phone has to be a P1i-like phone. There is also a Blacberry 9700 in the wardrobe that I stopped using since I missed the touch interface on top of the keypad.
I am waiting for BB10 phones with a QWERTY/ touch interface to replace my wonderful P1i. The Bold 9900 was going to be my next phone but that RIM decided it wasn't going to be upgraded to BB10 killed the idea of me buying it. It is definitely the best phone I have used to date and was really, really sad that UIQ 'died' such a premature death.
I have a few useful apps on it, like Spam sms manager, Swiss manager elite, Big Ben, Coreplayer and a few more others.

I actually like my w960i. It would take forever to boot up, but once it booted it was really good. No probs with ram, Just loved it. But i replaced it with n96 i think as i was not sure if it supported us frequencies.

Very impressive @ Dups! I liked the P1i but never owned one. Came out soon after I got the P990i and couldn't afford to get it at the time. It is truly a gem. Very interesting that only recently (2011) is the concept of Touch'n'Type ala Blackberry and Nokia E6 catching on while SE had that nailed a long time ago!
I wonder (and secretly wish) if Sony will revive an updated P-Series type of flagship. Unlikely though with this obsession with full touch, but one can wonder and wish I guess...
@skblakee - Those P990i RAM issues drove me up the wall. They put me off SE, even though I still went and got an Xperia X1 afterwards - only because it was such a sweet deal. But that was it for me.

I tell you, the P1i is the last great smartphone from Sony Ericsson. I have tried other phones and still come back to it. Its only drawback is that it is slow compared to the current crop of smartphones. Other things like the screen resolution, apps, etc, don't bother me much. I also get very good battery standby times compared to the full touch phones we have these days. It truly is sad that SE had an advantage and let it slip. Like you correctly pointed out, the M600i and later the P1i were miles and miles ahead of every other QWERTY equipped phone back then.
The keypad on this phone is amazing once you get used to its unusual design and ergonomics. It made discover how inferior my 9700 was to the P1i. Truly innovative from SE.
It is not only that but their use of the touch UIQ. It really pains me that that particular Symbian OS was failed so badly by SE and later by Nokia with Symbian Foundation.
I don't see Sony coming up with such a design again, everybody is preoccupied with these slabs that only touch based.

I was using a 5800 5 months back till it broke and went back to my good'ol P1i for 2 months with no intention of upgrading.But then it started dying!  now on a XS!

@ Bucheral, that P800 is a beauty. And it looks like its still working and in mint condition? I can't wait for Sony to be inspired and start making such standout products again.
