LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday. She was 48.
Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen told reporters outside the Beverly Hilton that Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. in her room on the fourth floor of the hotel. Her body remained there and Beverly Hills detectives were investigating.

she was indeed an amazing singer. I saw her several times in her early years before she met Bobby Brown, and I still reckon IMHO that was her downfall, sadly... he has alot to answer for.
R.I.P.
edit: this was one of my fav tracks in those early days, and also what I remember seeing in those days... an excellent version of the more commercial offerings of the same track.
When info about people passing on is posted here I'm sad but some hit home more than others, and this is definitely one of those

Shame another troubled singer. I am ashamed to say I used to have a Bobby Brown album. He treated her bad

Yes so young. She was a great singer but her music was not for me.

I'm sure he'll be sorry/unhappy for this event, but I doubt he will openly take responsibility.
I followed her from "how will I know"/"I wanna dance with somebody" and other early songs and also the great soundtrack of the bodyguard and it was so sad to see the decline, despite her great voice. I couldnt face going to see her at the O2 a couple of years back as I knew I would be dissapointed, and the feedback from those events confirmed it.
but... history sometimes shows that this is the way the greats go... (elvis presley, kurt kobain, michael hutchence etc etc) and there is nothing we can do...

She did a concert last year in Birmingham and she lost her voice. Yes Michael Hutchence,Amy Winhouse,Kurt Kobain,Jim Morrisson,Michael Jackson,Phil Lynott they all did drugs in some way

yes, she was sincerely trying to come back but it was certainly a failure.
I am truly teary eyed at this loss. I hoped she would bounce back from that failure having ditched Bobby and having some success with "million dollar bill".
Also when artists I respect such as this die so young (and I have just turned 50), it also brings my own mortality home with a thump.
... but then I guess we all have to go at some time and perhaps its true (from bladerunner) that the star that burns twice as bright burns for half as long |

Well she was big in a time of the 80's & 90's and that was a great time for music and when life seemed good too. Now these singers we grow up with pass away and we are older it reminds hair happier younger years and it brings it back. As for soul artists who died I loved Luther Vandross the man with the velvet voice. I loved Freddie Mercury too another artist who burned out too early

One of her songs I liked was It's Not Right but it's ok. Just liked that one alot remember dancing to it in a night club in Great Yarmouth. Some of her slow songs were a little cheesy and samey but there were still the good stand out ones. Saving All My Love For You I liked. Could never stand I Will Always Love You it was well sung but awfully too cheesy for me and it was No.1 here for too long. She was a great artist singer and personality too even though I was not her biggest fan music wise.
