Latest image leaks shows a Sony Ericsson prototype running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Will we see a Sony Windows Phone Mango smartphone at Mobile World Congress in February?
Esato News

Sony Ericsson working on a Windows Phone smartphones

The unknown prototype is labeled with the Sony Ericsson brand name, but the name change to Sony is just a few days ahead. Regulatory approval from EU will take place on February 2nd. Sony is currently only making smartphones running on the Android OS, but by looking at the leaked images, the company is obviously looking into doing a Windows Phone smartphone as well. All the big players such as HTC, LG, Samsung, ZTE and Nokia have a handful of handsets running the latest mobile OS from Microsoft.

Sony is one of the few companies which has not announced that they are working on a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango smartphone. This could changed soon, and the Mobile World Congress which takes place in the end of February could be the place to announce one or two Sony smartphones running on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

When the news broke in October last year that Sony would buy Ericssons half of Sony Ericsson, Sony CEO Howard String told the press that they are phasing out feature phones. The number of phones running on Sony Ericssons proprietary software is almost reduced to zero by now. As far as we know, only the Vivaz, Elm and Cedar are available in some stores. Android is currently the platform of choice but Sony could be considering another OS such as Windows Phone as well.

this is really very bad that sony is ending the old proprietary softwere like used in sony ericsson elm w995 etc. i am using sony ericssin since it has started k500. after this i used every set of it not the stupid beg xperia series. i hate touch screen phones. and like me most of the people like simple sets in developing countries. i am in pakistan and here despite of a lot of qualities of the xperia therer is limited use of it. for eg here is no gps no traking system so any one will be very stupid to keep such beg set in pockets and u can not write on touch screen when in cars.sony ericsson has made business n mobiles like w800 w 810 k750 bcz they were simple and easy to keep in pocket light weight. but the fall of the sony ericsson is bcz of its policies maker. they have keep the most stupid people who are not even able to make policies that what type of mobile people will like. nodoubt people like touch screen but still alot of people want simple mobiles like k 850 w995.like nokia is making touch screen they are making simple mobile. although they are little behind in high end touch screen from htc or iphone but they have keep its clints by bringing out the sets like prevoius. nokia has not killed the symbian system they have made changes in it for the easity of users.
in short sony is making another blunder. and soon they will realize.
i have sent many emails to sony ericsson but that have replied wrongly. so plz any one reading this, plz forward my message to Sony CEO Howard String.

Well, that's how technology moves forward.
Nokia 6070 (2006-2009), K550 (second hand 2009-2010), Hazel (J20i) (2010-2011), Samsung Galaxy S II (2011-2012), Samsung Galaxy S III (2012-2014), Sony Xperia Z3 (2014-)

forward is not always better. SE OS could do almost anything. It's a shame that it's gone but so is SE.
I found the amazing simplicity back in Mango but I doubt I'll trade my Lumia for a Sony.

Actually Sony will try this OS in order to keep. or gain clients. As HTC, Nokia and others are into this, why not Sony?

SE's non-smartphone OS was great, simple and "smart", it was the most userfriendly UI of all well-known brands.
It's a shame they don't use it anymore. I know, in Western Europe, the US and Japan "everybody" wants a smartphone, but the world is bigger, then Western Europe, US and Japan. We're used to getting a phone for "free" with a contract, but there are still more countries, where you simply have to pay the complete amount at once, not in 12 or 24 months. Without these subsidised contracts you wouldn't see so many 14 year-olds with an iPhone, Sensation, Galaxy SII (or another expensive smartphone) here either .
In countries without these kind of contracts, people don't automatically buy a smartphone. Most of them use cheap Nokias, Samsungs, LG's, etc. Of course profit on these phones is very low, but they sell in huge amounts.
So I don't think it was smart of Sony, to let go of these millions of potential customers.

Nokia is still using it's S40 handsets but there is zero multi tasking on them which feature phones could do.

My point exactly: Nokia's S40 isn't as "smart" as SE's own UI, Samsung's non-smart OS is even worse, still: Nokia and Samsung are selling millions of these simple phones, Sony is going to stop.

Nokia recently bought out a OS from Norway or something so Laffen reported. I think it will be for their future feature phones.

I agree.

Sony Ericssons will always be my preferred brand for feature phones. Excellent camera and media features that even rival some smartphones.
