Is this true? I would LOVE to believe this, but have we any evidence of it?
Anyway, why do ppl keep saying that Sony is releasing similar handsets that compete with themselves? I think now that the more models they release, the wider range of users the brand will appeal to, the more operators will pick up Sony handsets, and the more choice consumers will have when choosing phones. Not everyone is looking to buy a 4.6" monster eh, most ppl look to buy something affordable and not overly huge.
So by all means Sony, flood the market!
Well I heard from retailers in my country and also some retailers from other countries including Eastern Europe
Plus even un13x mentioned this on XDA that NXT range is selling like hotcakes, which is why Sony is in no hurry to launch the Hayabusa.
@iamstevie
True, but is Sony to blame for this ? I don't think so. Samsung Ace was selling last year with the same hardware at a significantly higher price point than what the Miro/Tipo would be priced at. And on the whole the Tipo is a better package than any of its competitors.

You are really an eternal optimist when it comes to Sony, aren't you?
I honestly doubt Sony is doing great in sales. I will wait for the financial report though I doubt Sony will specifically break down the mobile unit sales since they prefer to report on the overall corporation.

I cant understand why they even use that old qualcomm platform when they have a lot of phones with a better platform. The mini and live with walkman are being sold at a VERY low price atm and are much better than these phones |

Qualcomm actually released updated S1 processors, which I assume the Miro and Tipo use as opposed to the higher-clocked versions of the exact processors that the X10 Mini used. |

Hmm not sure I agree... if you think about it, strip out ICS and you are left with a pretty bad phone. As you say, Galaxy released the Ace last year which again only did well because a) it has the galaxy brand b) It was released with Android 2.3
Miru's specs match the original Ace (but with addition of ICS). However, Samsung have now upgraded this low-range phone to the Ace 2.... this was released in January 2012 (so probably 7/8 months before the Miru), has a dual core processor and for most part better specs. So if Sony wants to compete in the low range market, they need a phone to match those kind of specs.
Whether Miru does well or not will ultimately come down to their marketing campaign, but the fact is going forward Sony really needs to start improving their speed to market and capitalising on their other brands (Mobile bravia etc were great ideas). They said they were going to do this last year, but the speed to market still is not happening... |

Eternal optimist ? Maybe but the figures I gave are practical. Sony Corp did give out mobile numbers during its Q1 earnings report. In Q1 2012 Sony Mobile shipped 8 million phones. Now this quarter was without any new Xperia phone, just 2011 handsets.
Q2 2012 - Xperia S sold really well + Sales in japan were all time high especially the Acro HD and by the end of Q2 sales of Xperia U, Sola and P would also be included. Also 2011 handset sales are decent as well. So I don't think pegging the sales estimate for Q2 at 10 million units is being highly optimistic Most probably they sold more than 10 million.
Q3 - Would include 2011 range + Xperia S + Japan models + Acro S + U + P + Sola + Go + Tipo + Tipo Dual + Miro + HSPA Ion + US Ion and US NXT sales. Let's suppose they will ship 11 million ( I am underestimating)
Q4 - All of the above - 2011 range + Hayabusa + Mint + 1/2 mid range. Since its the holiday season and its quite obvious sales in US and Europe would pick up, so let's peg Q4 numbers to be around 13 million.
So Q1(8) + Q2(10) + Q3(11) + Q4(13) = 42 million.
I don't think this is in any way being overly optimistic. Though I am quite sure the actual numbers would be higher still.
P.S. I know Q1+Q2+Q3+Q4 is not equal to FY 2012-13 but I am just estimating full year 2012 sales and not financial year.

Ace 2 competes with Xperia U and not Miro. Miro is priced much lower. And Xperia U is a better phone than Ace 2.

BREAKING:- Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chips will have supply issues until 2013
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a contract chip maker that produces SoCs for Qualcomm, Nvidia, and others, has told Focus Taiwan that its 28nm foundry will fail to meet demand until 2013. The company manufactures Qualcomm's 28nm Snapdragon S4, one of the most sought-after SoCs in the market right now. Largely due to its integrated LTE, the S4 is the chip of choice for US variants of the HTC One X, One S, and the Samsung Galaxy S III.
TSMC says that the shortages will improve in the fourth quarter, and "market demand is likely to be satisfied in 2013." We already heard warnings that the Snapdragon S4 was facing shortages back in April, which led to the delay of the Asus Padfone. Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs gave Reuters a more positive spin on the situation, telling the news organization that supply would be under control towards the year-end. "The goal is to get enough supply for everyone," said Jacobs. Unfortunately, it looks as though that won't happen for some time.

Well, since we're estimating I will let it slide until that time. I would, however, like to point out that the Japanese market is not terribly huge so don't put too much hope in that.
Also, some of last year's portfolio is obviously going to cease being produced which again puts pressure on the newer stock. I just don't see them hitting the 40 or 42 million handsets this year.
My estimation is around 38 million, yes, pretty close and maybe negligible. The problem I had with your previous post was actually not the number of shipments but that Sony is selling well, I don't think they are. What they are still suffering from is the same sickness that plaqued Sony Ericsson and it is still affecting sales. Anyway, let's wait to see the next few quarters' results so we can see where the company stands.

I do hope the Cyber-shot rumours are true. We have already seen the app appear so may be it isn't so unbelievable.

if the Z is flagship, shouldn't that make it Mint?
also, that's great if it'll have cybershot optics from the T series. hope it's true!

Are they pronounced Xperia TEE-PO & MEE-RO or TY-PO & MY-RO?
Where do they get these quirky names from?
I really liked the cool names from last year like arc, neo, ray, pro....

ok seriously I do not understand what Sony is doing with their budget offerings...even last years budget phone the xperia mini....had better specs than the tipo!!! the only thing i see the tipo has over the mini...is larger internal storage....screen is .2" bigger but same resolution.....but it has a worse processor with adreno 200 as compared to adreno 205 in the mini...and the mini also had a 5MP camera with LED flash and shutter key
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4718&idPhone2=3947
so why couldn't SONY jus save the money not designing these crap phones and just sell the mini at a lower price...and maybe bump up its storage...its a way better phone! SONY strategy seems absurd to me
as for the rumour of the 4 phones with S4 processors and OLED screens...as much as I would love to see them....I remain very skeptical....we shall find out on 20th June I guess!
