IF Sony are onto a tablet/PC hybrid before the end of the year I'll be all over it. As I was going to go for the ASUS Transformer Prime when that's out, but I'll wait to see if there is any competition.

I'd like to see where you read these rumours.

Here is the article about the hybrid tablet

S(E) Switzerland will post hints every day regarding the new phones. First one above. I guess the branding question is answered

@Rog

Wait a min!
Since you're an insider I am sure you won't be stupid enough to overlook the fact that the device in the picture is indeed the Sony Android Walkman Z. So does this mean that its a phone version of the Walkman Z developed by SONY

See this pic of the Walkman Z and compare with the pic Rog posted. It matches 100%.

@pawfyd. Apple and Sony are companies with very different strategies. Its not like they sit at the lunch table together and decide to make similar decisions.

Are you sure they don't share their lunch table and don't decide to make similiar choices about the future of mobile phones? Then why is Sony removing microSD slot, making battery non-removable and going for micro SIM? Apple have a big influence these days, you may hate or love them, but they know how to handle bussiness. Sony/SE is the only other company in my eyes which is able to sell phones even though they are outdated, simply beacuse it's Sony/SE. Every other company had dual cores in 2011, but SE wasn't doing badly, they sold a lot of phones, would be even more if not the earthquake.

Lol should have known that the non-removable battery and lack of SD-slot was Sonys idea. I dont really care about the battery but no SD-card slot is a big fail, specially since all the other phones has it (except nexus).

Anyway there has been some rumours about dedicated Sony sound chips in the new phones. That would be awesome. That would also explain the walkman picture

TransferJet is included in CyberShot cameras and MemorySticks sins last year... and this picture is from distant 2008 when Sony introduced technology development.

I prefer not having an microSD slot. No need for the slot to take up space, just hard-wire the memory directly to the motherboard, so there's a few cubic mm extra design space. As long as there is enough included of course. I need SE to match or better my 32GB card.

I might be wrong as I've not done the research, but I doubt very many people carry a spare memory card to swap out. In fact, I bet most people aren't 100% sure how to remove the card from their phone at all, present (minority) company excluded obviously.

@Ricky D

It's not really as much about swapping than about extendable memory. 32GB may not be enough for many people, certainly isn't enough for me

I would agree with this, but one issue I have is that if the phone breaks/gets dropped in water etc. with a memory card photos and data can still be recovered but if not, then when a phone breaks everything gets lost with it, as it is much harder to recover (taking out the hard drive which I presume would be soldered right down on a motherboard)

But yeah otherwise not having one is simpler as you don't have to worry about moving apps to the SD card and it doesn't get complicated having one thing on the internal and something else on the external memory.

Also they might try to push cloud storage as well (which I am not really for atm)
