The release of the source code means manufactures and independent developers can modify the code as they like and make adjustments to the core operating system itself. The developer environment for making apps for the 4.0 platform has been available for approximately one month as the Google phone Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the first Ice Cream Sandwich model to hit the market. By releasing the source code of version 4.0 to the open source community, Google does what it promised to do when they release the closed-code version 3.2 for tablets. Android 4.0 is a merge of Android 2.3 for smartphones and Android 3.2 for tablets. It is the developers over at the Android Open Source Project that published a notice about the availability of the ICS today. |
