It should be on your computer. How did you get it to the ipod in the first place?
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
The ipod touch is not a storage device. It is designed to mirror the elected content from your computer.
What's more, you can refer this article about how to transfer or copy music from iPod to computer, which included an easy guide to work out that.
Cheers.

The OP should really just ignore this completely misinformed advice
Music sync can go both ways even if it's not iTunes purchased using the right software, just because iTunes doesn't allow it doesn't mean it can't be done
Just google, there are a lot of free software that copy music from iPod to computer |

There are very simple stems to follow to copy music from your iPod to your PC. First of all, you need to connect your iPod to your PC. If it starts syncing your iPod automatically, then stop it immediately. Then go to control panel. In control panel, you will find portable media devices, double click on your device iPod. Select show hidden files and folders from folder option in tools menu. Then you will find iPod_Cotrol in which Music folders are there. Just select the music folders that you like to copy to your PC and drag and drop to the folder of your computer. Hence, you can copy music from your iPod to your PC.

Well if you bought those songs on iTunes I think it’s easy to get them back, because they should be linked to your account so you can download them for free again.
But if those music on your ipod are from other computers via itunes, you may not transfer them from ipod to pc because itunes can only transfer these fiels from itunes to your ipod touch. In that case you will need some other tools to do that. Google iPod Transfer and maybe you can find something useful.

If you've genuinely bought the songs from iTunes Store to your iPod, you should be able to transfer purchases without any problems, as long as you authorize your new computer with the same iTunes account that you bought your songs with.
