I've been considering rooting my phone (finally) but what's the best ROM to use? Is there a big difference between stock firmware and a custom ROM?
I am a noob at this

Hmm, I've rooted but I noticed that the display is now not as good, much much more washed out
contrast is way out there's always an issue

Problem solved by flashing with a new kernel. Went for a super fast one, need to find that speed test app.
very happy to have great contrast back

Except for him/her the thread seems to have gone quiet in anticipation of ICS. What say you?

Most of the phone threads aren't active on Esato if the phone isn't new

Yep, waiting for March.

So far my GS2 hasnt set a single foot wrong, it just works, ive just been enjoying the whole experience, dont have much to say, other than im just so happy with this beast and Android, its just so perfect

Been watching and reading reviews/demos/unboxings of various smartphones from Lumia800,900, Titan2, Moto Razr, Xperia S, iPhone4S etc... and all of them either in functionality, power or speed/performance fall short next to a GS2, some recently leaked benchmark scores of a NVidia Tegra3 quad-core LG dont seem that much greater than GS2 same with benchmarks of Xperia S, some of which fall short of GS2, this phone was truely ahead of its time and even a year later its proving a hard device to match, im just not interested in anything else on the market at the moment thanks to it.

I remember just before Gingerbread was released for the X10 the thread went dead as well.Waiting patiently for Samsungs official release and then shortly there-after for the Checkroms team ICS rom.Theres a Checkrom Revo HD v6 (I'm on v4) with a Kitchen v2 about to be released but I'm thinking whats the point if ICS is coming next month.
I as well am totally in awe of this G2.Rock solid and a perfect performer.Kicks most phones in the chops.

Definitely. Did a Quadrant Standard benchmark and I'm surprised mine is faster than the Galaxy Nexus. The GT-I9100 is a monster when it comes to benchmarks.

Galaxy Nexus pushes 50% more pixels cause of the high resolution screen so you can't compare it with the S2 in terms of speed.

Benchmark apps like AnTuTu use a default resolution, so the amount of pixels on the screen dont matter. The Galaxy Note which uses the same chipset as Galaxy SII clockd at 1.4GHz manages to pull higher scores than the Galaxy Nexus despite the 1280x800 res display.
