Most of the newer Xperia phones have poor detailing on the cameras. That is why they are so fast, the file size is so small. You can get decent pics if you try

I was thinking of upgrading to the xperia mini from my x10 mini but having second thoughts also now.

I like the size of the x10 mini and the newer xperia mini feels alot chunkier in the hand also has a worse camera. Whats the point in paying good money for downgrades in some departments?

There arnt any other options though in this kind of size.

Purchased a black Mini in India a few days ago. It is a lovely little device. The salesman told me that I needed to install anti-virus software in the phone. I am new to Android devices, so I have the following questions:

1) Do I really need to install antivirus software in the phone?
2) And, if so, what is the best one to purchase and install?

No you dont, thats a lie. Android is not like a pc, you cant just get a virus. You can however install bad apps, but common sense is the cure for that (read reviews of apps you are unsure of)

Thank you for your very prompt response.
I suspected as much that's why I told him that I'll look into installing it later.

How much did you pay for Xperia mini in rupee??

According to my research of mini pro, it is already equipped with one antivirus software with one year licence. I think its antivir.

I paid Rs. 12.7K, cash.
The mini does not come with any AV.
It also does not come with a screen protector.

Thats good price. The mini pro is at 15.4 k.

Here in India, who wants screen protector. You can easily get it done at any mobile shop at Rs. 20. I have screen protector stick on my k850 for last 3 years and still no edge has come off.

You're complaining 'bout the camera on mini/pro? On these price range?
To think that it is "bang for the buck" Android phone? Name one Android phone on this range that has a super camera.

I have a Pentax Optio 550 camera, it has a 5mp sensor and the file size is roughly the same. Files from the mini pro are between 900Kb and 1MB, files from the camera are around 1.1MB, and look absolutely great (the Optio 550 was one of the best compact cameras on the market in 2003). I don't see JPEG compression artifacts when looking at Mini/Mini Pro pictures. So it is not compression that is causing poor detail, it's the high noise reduction that is applied to photos, and so the problem is the sensor (too noisy).
It is true: SE could have done better, but probably this is the best sensor they can use right now. That said, we should stop comparing the mini/mini pro camera with phones that cost twice or three times...

Sony is notorious for heavy noise reduction in their Cybershots; I'm completely unsurprised that SE phones get treated to the same processing scheme.
