try to play with the noise cancellation function...meaning the 2nd mic etc etc.

who knows the software is cancelling so much noise tht the sound you want to pick up get cancelled.

plus the position of second mic...if you are not careful, you might cover it while holding the phone for video.

Just shot a video with my neo, and in my subjective point of view it sounds pretty loud. I shot with untouched settings at 720p. Hard to say what is loud thouch, my loud could be your low.. Could it be a convertion issue or do you compare the original videos? I'd like to think it's a software thing, did you update to 2.3.3?

There's no conversion being done. I'm playing back the mp4 files on my PC after recording.
I tried with both v2.3 and v2.3.3. The result is the same. The audio in the Neo-recordings are only about 60% loud/clear of the audio in the Arc and Aino and N82 recordings.

You should try recording a video with two devices at the same time. If you have e.g. an Elm or Aino or another device. (Not the Vivaz though).

I've been very careful checking such things while recording. I definitely did not hold my finger over the microphone.
I don't know what you mean with noise canceling function. But as stated, I played back the two videos on my PC, using the same player, and the difference is very clear.

I actually called Sony Ericsson support to ask about differences in the microphones in Neo and Arc. They didn't know. They advised me to try out more Neo's, but that's kinda hard for me at the moment as I've already bought two, and one of the shops refuse to take it back even though they said they would. Still waiting to hear from the other shop.

Ok, I've just talked with Sony Ericsson Xperia support again now, and this time they gave me some useful information.

It is infact true that Neo records sound at a lower volume in video-recordings than Arc. They tested themselves while I was on the phone with them. And they believe, that the reason for this is, that the Arc uses both microphones when recording videos, while Neo only uses the microphone on the back of the device.

Apparently using both microphones on the Arc, gives the same audio-volume on videorecordings, as the one microphone does on the Aino - but not the Neo.

So there you have it. Problem at least explained now.

I'm left with the two Neo's I don't want, and struggling to get my money back for them.

I'm being told now in another thread, that I must have been very unlucky getting two Neo's that's clearly flawed. I posted this demonstration of the audio-difference between an Arc recording and Neo recording, done at the same time.

If you agree that the Neo definitely should not be that much different than Arc, please let me know in this thread. Thanks.

incredible , that would be PHP 17k in my country. my old k800i cost about that much when i bought it years ago, you can really see how fast mobile tech is progressing.

No sure word on when the Neo & other SE Android phones will be available in the retail shops here unfortunately.

Here in Baguio Xplay cost 22k($511), while Arc cost 26k($604), it's kinda weird the prices have interchanged, earthquake in Japan have an heavy effect on Arc Cost while Xplay's price already depreciated

Neo was also my 1st choice, but until now, there's no sign of NEO in SE shop/Mobile Shop yet, and i think when it comes out the price will be slightly higher than Xplay

and right now i am considering Xperia Arc, because of availability, and Xperia Ray if i am going to wait more

My Xperia Neo is a China/HK version. I switch it to English and the keyboard is in english(US) but it also have a chinese keyboard that I can't seem to turn off. More ever, I can't seem to use the Japanese keyboard that I already set (keyboard settings).
On the keyboard, the "EN" button will only switch to between that and "CN", but no Japanese (hiragana). How can I fix it. I'm also interested in getting rid of the chinese keyboard.

Also, since it's a CHN/HK version, how does it affect the usual update for kits? i.e. how long for the kit compared to Europe and USA?

Same here, the Ray is more to my liking being smaller than the Arc (which is why I was considering the Neo). Nice Baguio price for the Play, unfortunately it's more expensive here in Manila (~26k).

You'd think that a country with ~100M people, an expanding economy & a credit rating upgraded 2-3x in the past 2 years by the credit rating agencies would be high on SE's priorty list but noooooooo. It's why Samsung is making such inroads here, they know the potentials of the market and move accordingly.

Skype 2.0 brings two-way video calling to Xperia Neo/Pro

The Skype team has updated its Skype ™ to Android application in the Android Market ™ to support video call to a limited number of phones, including the new Sony Ericsson smartphones, the Sony Ericsson Xperia ™ Neo ™ and the upcoming Sony EricssonXperia pro.

The application allows users to make Skype all the great things users are used to Skype to Android ™ and now adds the ability to free video conferencing that lets you make free video calls between phones supported Android ™, IOS devices, PC, Mac and even some TV on WiFi or 3G. Video call can consume a large amount of data so when using 3G you must ensure that an appropriate data plan, to avoid any surprises at the end of the month.
