Viewsonic unofficialy reported that they will have a Android 2.4 smartphone available in April
Esato News

Viewsonic is probably most known for its display products. LCD computer monitors and photo frames. But they also make tablets and computers. Currently, three tablet are available from the manufacture: the VPAD7, a 7 inch Android 2.2 tablet, VPAD10 a 10.1 inch dual-boot Windows/Android 1.6 tablet and a 10.1 inch gTablet running Android 2.2.

At CES in Las Vegas last month, ViewSonic annouced the 4.1 inch ViewPad 4 Android smartphone. The official press annoucement said this was an Android 2.2 phone but the ViewSonic representatives at the CES booth said it was getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread soon after launch.

According to pocket-lints source, this has changed. Android 2.4 will be out sooner than planed. The reason is that dual-core apps designed for Android 3.0 Honeycomb (tablet version of Android) can't run on single-core CPUs on Android 2.3. The Android 2.3 to 2.4 update will not change the code name Gingerbread. The only new features in 2.4 is the ability to run dual-core apps on a single-core smartphone.

ViewSonic ViewPad 4

ViewSonic told pocket-lint the ViewPad 4 is the first device running on Android 2.4 Gingerbread.

The ViewPad 4 is a Android smartphone with a 4.1 inch capacitive multi-touch display, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB memory, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS, 5 megapixel camera and a VGA front facing camera. Release date is in April this year.

ViewSonic the first to release the 2.4?

This device seems to be a good one. Good specs and a very stylish design.

Way to go.
