Loads of people have been asking about t9, is it on the p800 and loads of replies have said no but it doesnt need it as it has graffiti and the keyboard thing.
In reality neither of these options, or multitap comes anywhere near the simplicity and speed of one handed t9 input for sms's. On my t68i I can reply to a text message received whilst in a meeting or something similar with barely a glance at the phone with t9. On my p800 I have to laboriously use multitap or open the phone up and start trying to hit the miniscule keys on the virtual keyboard with my stylus or try and write it in with graffiti (both very frustrating!!!). Has anyone tried to do this whilst out at the pub after a couple of drinks??!!
P800 neeeds T9 or similar, it may be a combined pda and phone but as a phone it HUGELY suffers from not having this. It is first and formost a phone, it is a pda second. 90% of my use of p800 is still with sms's.Now it takes at least 90% longer to write them!!
The other methods are nice, but lets be honest here, the virtual keyboard is no replacement for a real keyboard and anyone who says "who needs t9 when you have a qwerty keyboard" can't have actually used a p800. Or is rubbish at using T9!!!!!!!! |

I have used the P800 extensively.
As you yourself said, the P800 is a phone. What you are looking for is a messenging platform without a lot of connectivity features that is geared towards your dependency on T9.
It seems your entire focus is on T9. The P800 is a business-line phone. Have you tried sending texts messages with 1 hand on a 9210 without looking at the phone?
If 90% of your "phone use" is for txting, then I highly recommend a 3310. |

what i was trying to do was explain why i think the p800 needs the t9. surely that is not so hard to understand. I do not want a 3310 (very droll). what is want is a phone that has pda facilities, a camera (nice) and all the basic phone features that even the cheapest handset now comes with. I said 90% of my PHONE use is texts rather than calls. just because i text alot that does not mean that i will not use anything else on the phone, that is just plain stupid.
with regard to my entire focus is on t9..... well yes that was what my post was about, i was talking about ONE thing about the p800 that it lacks. so please don't be daft. |

IMHO, the P800 appears to be the perferct device, but for the lack of t9. Personally, I don't use t9 (never really tried), but it seems like a very useful input method for many people.
How much of the phone's resources would it require to add it? Couldn't be that much.
That t9 is missing from the P seems like a huge oversight. I hope SE adds it back in a subsequest sw release. |

p.s. I love the phone, i use ALL the other features, photos, organiser, email etc..... i just miss one thing. It may appear to be a business phone to you but it is also the best phone type gadget out and will be bought by an enormous amount of people just because of all the things it can do. U mention nokia phones twice in your post, u trying to say someting  ? |

Actually, I'm wondering if either Tegic demanded extraordinary licensing fees, or simply don't have a Symbian 7 port.
What was that other predictive text software SE used on the T200? |

what does the nokia 7650 use operating system wise?
Don't know if it is a cost reason or se just didn't think it would be needed. But I think if enough people do whinge to them they might just add it. |

7650 uses the Series 60.
Well, SE tends to make sure they include everything including the kitchen sink in their phones... There's probably a really good reason why it isn't there (at least in flip/virtual flip mode).

Rashkae ... the 7650 runs Nokia's Series 60 *on top of* Symbian.
Obviously there is a T9 implementation for Symbian.

It could be that SE thought that not many people would actually use T9, when you have the option of handwriting recognition. And by not including T9 they didn't have to pay licensing fees for T9. It's probably just a business decision. It seems a bit unnecessary to license more than one input method (Jot for handwriting).
I think I would use hand writing recognition 95% of the time anyway. I don't even think I would keep the keypad on the P800. But sure I could see a few situations where T9 could be useful. But most of the time Hand writing is far superior. I've been using hand writing on a Palm for a few years now and I can enter text very fast by writing it, mcuh faster than I can enter text with T9.

I rarely use handwriting, but I love the virtual qwerty keyboard! 
I find it to be just as fast as T9, some times faster.
I do however see the need for T9, but only for one-handed-on-the-go-or-in-the-car-driving- use!

Yes, on top of Symbian 6.0; for all we know, there could be 3 reasons for not including T9:
1. SE didn't think it would be necessary considerig the alternatives
2. Tegic's T9 doesn't work on Symbian 7.0
3. Jot refuses to "share" a phone with Tegic (exclusivity clauses) |

SE did do right in not including t9 on the p800. me i do not use t9 for it is annoying and i use my own shorter, texting abbreviated slang when i do sms. |
