Yes. Opera Mini 5.1 has been released. This does not have any new features but, according to the opera blog, it will be able to run in phones that have less memory e.g. Nokia S40. SE users shouldn't have problem. . and probably fixes few bugs too.

Download from here:

The update to version 5.1 introduces a new installation process that optimizes Opera Mini on phones that with limited memory. This allows for more pages to be opened at the same time, and overall improved browsing performance.

There are no major new features introduced in Opera Mini 5.1, but this update is highly recommended for users of Nokia S40 feature phones with limited memory, such as the popular Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300 and Nokia 2700 handsets. This upgrade will also benefit phones with a small screen size, such as the Sony Ericsson K550i and Sony Ericsson W810i phones. In addition, Opera Mini 5.1 will improve the browsing experience for those who have encountered out-of-memory issues or the need to reload open web pages while surfing with Opera Mini 5. The update is not critical for Opera Mini users on smartphones or high end devices.

If you install it over previous version (without uninstalling or deleting), the bookmarks, saved pages wont disappear. Dont delete the previous version. (saved pages are saved in memory, so they wont get deleted, just locate the saved pages folder after installing).

I installed it, got a new icon in the program folder but it still says it's v.5.0

EDIT: Worked now when I downloaded directly on the phone instead.

2nd EDIT: What's new with this version? I don't notice any difference.

Press release:

One browser. 3000 phones.

Opera updates Opera Mini, improving the Opera Mini experience on selected phones

Oslo, Norway — July 8, 2010

Opera Mini, the world’s most popular mobile phone browser with over 61 million users worldwide, delivers the best Internet experience possible on more than 3000 mobile phones.

Today, Opera introduces Opera Mini 5.1, an update to the popular Opera Mini 5, which further improves the browsing experience on phones with limited memory. The update includes a new optimized browser skin allowing for more pages to be open at the same time, more rapid scrolling through pages, and overall improved browsing performance.

This update is highly recommended for users of Nokia S40 feature phones with limited memory, such as the popular Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300 and Nokia 2700 handsets.

“The goal with Opera Mini is to make the Web available to anyone, anywhere, regardless of where they come from or the handset they have,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “More than 61 million people on over 3000 devices have chosen to surf the Web with Opera Mini for fast and easy Internet access at a considerably lower cost.”

Opera Mini compresses data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the phone, resulting in faster page loading and speed. This compression dramatically reduces data load, which translates to lower browsing costs when on a pay-per-MB data plan, especially when roaming.

I did an update on my thread.

After knowing the latest release, i downloaded from wap site but when i run for the first time, it stucked on installing page showing only 20% progress in bar. I kept it for 10 mins but no progress at all. I have deleted the old one and installed once again. But the same. I repeated that for 4-5 times with one restart of phone but it stucked on same point. So i had to remove all the applications and games from phone and emptied ams folder. Then i installed after one more restart and it run well.

Apart from my bad experience, i find no speed difference from v5.0. About post bug, let me tell you i had not experience this bug from the last varient of v5.0 so i guess this version is also this bug free. Couple of days' use will give you the perfect idea about it.

This version seems a lot smoother and bit faster. But the facebook bug(page loading after writing a comment or status) still prevails. I think its the problem with opera engine(4.2 does the same thing, but it loads the whole page).

I hope they will sort it out quickly.

Well from my use of approx 4 hours of v5.1, i have found few positives and negatives as follows.

Positives

1. Loads pages very fast.
2. Opens more tabs. I have opened 10 simultaneously. without out of memory page.
3. Running smoothly.

Negatives

1. So far i have experienced the re-post bug once.
2. When more than 3-4 tabs opened and when you click on something on any page, that page is cleared. Totally white page without any message but your command (click) is executed. If you press back again white screen appears. You have to reload that page.

Thank you.

The white page bug was also in 5.0 it started a month or 2 ago. Haven't had the reload bug for 2 months, coincidence?
