And I hope you're right.  In any case there shouldn't be much additional work needed on SE's part since the X8 is very similar to X10 Mini in both HW and SW.
I recently updated my X8 to 1.3.A.0.62 but haven't really noticed any (significant) change but it's OK as I'm already more than satisfied with the phone. The Android 2.1 update on the other hand should give it an additional performance boost and add support for more Android market apps.

How come my phone says 1.3.A.0.58 but says I have latest firmware on SEUS

It is possible that certain devices does not update to certain not so important versions of firmware. |

Well,mine is on O2UK so maybe it's their software I have no idea but it's stable anyway

Perhaps this doesn't have anything to do with it but which version of SEUS do you have on your computer? The latest is 2.10.11.10 (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/updateservice/xperiax8?cc=ie&lc=en)
The OTA service on the phone kept claiming I have the latest firmware version but I got the update through SEUS.
EDIT: Could be that it's not available on your operator like you said.

i would say sooner too .what else do they need,it's already certified even before the x10 mini .it must be final testing only that remains .all the hard work has been done on x10 mimi already.i bet end of november(in nordic countries ) |

let's hope so. I frankly don't understand the delay either. What i've been wondering is that SE took so long to get 2.1 out, don't know how long they'll take for that subsequent 2.x update 
Btw..how to check whether your device is customized, generic etc? Is it under 'Software info' in the service menu? mine's probably Generic anyway

I did see that video...but didnt u notice that pics on google n other sites has a matte finish...& in d video it has a glossy one... |

Pics on Google and other sites are not photos, they are made with graphics software and they may not show the glossy cover that the device has in real life. However video shows this perfectly. I am not surprised it has a glossy back cover because X8 is designed to look and be low-cost phone and SE are usually using soft-touch material for more expensive phones. |
