Have the choice of upgrade in the next few weeks with O2.

Not sure whether to get the Vivaz or X10.

What would you guys recomend?

from my experience ..... nothing bad at all for the X10, but then I'm biased
as all my previous SE's have been "less than good" !!!! (w910i, k850i, Satio ....)
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Whats great:
4,0" screen
design
Android
1Ghz processor

What isn't:
short battery life
laggy Timescape and Mediascape
Android because it's only 1.6 Donut. Support up to 65k colours
Quiet earpiece
No multitouch
No trackball etc
No AMOLED screen

I suppose the negatives could improve in future updates?

I've had a nokia (16m) and my x10 side by side and it may be my
tired old eyes but I couldn't see a whole lot of difference .... timescape
lagging , well yes but given whta it's doing I'll put up with a second or so.
I don't use mediascape so no problem there and donut ... yep waiting for
the update later in the year. I really couldn't care less (or miss) multi-touch.
I don't have issues with call volume - hate track balls - and having used
an AMOLED for a while am glad the X10 doesn't have one - but that's all
personal preferences so.

The only real pain is the battery - yes it's got 36-48 hours, but again given whats
going on I put up with it so my timescape is up to date
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I've heard X10 will have Android v2.1 in the future, so it's upgradeable.

Will it have multi-touch in future updates?
Xperia X10 has a capacitive screen. It does not support multi-touch functionality at launch, but is considered for the future.

X10 is one of the best handsets to date although it still does need some few touches. But once the upgrade is made everything will be perfect... Well at least except for the battery life which is common to Smartphones and Vivaz will still win over X10 when it comes to HD video quality no matter what.

My battery life is great, I have at least 35% by the end of a night.

laggy Timescape and Mediascape

Mine don't lag.

X10 will get upgraded, but I haven't missed anything by having 1.6 instead of 2.1, yet. 65k colors is fine, but I thought we were comparing Vivaz to the X10. The Vivaz is Symbian and Android 1.6 trumps that in my book.

Quiet earpiece
No multitouch

My earpiece is fine, granted if you require multi-touch don't get this phone but does Vivaz have it?

No trackball etc

Thankfully!!! No need for it.

No AMOLED screen

Which allows the user to see the screen in direct sunlight, how is this a negative? Give me the X10's screen over any other, and Vivaz is also not AMOLED.

Most of these are valid points but I wasn't comparing against the Vivaz in any shape or form. SE is still behind the competitors technology wise, and looks like it won't change for a longer while.

Whatever, no phone on the market has the specs of the X10, and Nokia's N8 is still a half a year from delivery, so I'm not sure what phone passes the Vivaz, Satio or X10, they're all great phones (save for Satio's initial awful firmware problems).

I am in a bit of the same predicament I would like to purchase a new phone and I have been looking specifically at the Vivaz and the X10. From all the posts you are all VERY keen on the X10 and have givien all the Pro's and cons on it BUT what about the Vivaz not much feed on what you guys think.

Compared price here in South Africa the X10 is a fair amount more then the Vivaz and I would like to know it the extra cash worth it and what are the pros and cons on the Vivaz.

I am currently a P1i user and loved my phone but it is now very tired and I need to upgrade

Thanks
