We all the know that the Nokia N900 is a pretty powerful device. but this is pushing the power of mobile devices to the maximum.

Two hours to boot up because the settings arent proper. Also though the N900 may not be as powerful as PCs or laptops, it is a very powerful mobile.

So with "proper" settings it would boot in seconds right? Not convinced. I think these experiments certainly show how open the hardware platform is - how easy it is to hack and adapt etc - but they also highlight the same limitations as other mobile hardware. There's nothing magic about the N900's processor or hardware design, it's optimised for a mobile OS and mobile use same as any phone, and proving it can boot Windows 95 just misses the point a little.

Nope not saying it would be fast with proper settings. It would be abit faster but still not fit for use. Even the iPhone wouldnt be able to run Mac OSX. Bt Android would be fast on an N900.
Name any other device in the market right now that can run all these OSees or multi-task like the N900.

But the point is, nobody wants to run Mac OS X on an iPhone, or Windows 95 on a Nokia - in reality, even if the N900 were capable of running a desktop OS at a bearable speed, it'd still be useless for the most part on a device that size. Not big, and not clever.
People are doing this with the N900 simply because they can - the design of the phone and its software makes it relatively easy for them - but that doesn't mean there's anything desirable or admirable about it. In fact the only question it begs is, how bad is Maemo that you'd rather be running Windows 95 on the thing?
In answer to your question, I can't name another phone that can run so many OSs (although obviously lots of others multitask quite happily). But I also can't name another phone where anyone has particularly tried to run so many other OSs.

I agree with Boinng though, the fact that N900 is running W95 doesnt make it more desirable. If i could get ANY phone RIGHT NOW it would be the N900 as it REALY is a mobile computer,i actualy laugh when they compare it to any iPhone, Symbian, WM, Android etc. . .device as it realy just crushes them, but the fact that it can run W95 doesnt make me want it more, it is interesting though but not what i would do if i got it.
The N82,N95/95-8gb and E90 can run W95 AND W98 by the way, so Symbian can do this to, i guess its the same guys who did it with N900.

Ye, its interesting to know its possible to do. The N900 is incredible though, i love how it just completely takes advantage of its hardware, the apps are of excellent quality in Maemo and that extra 768mb app memory,its an absolute multitasking/web mobile machine lol, i wouldnt ruin that by putting W95 on it lol.

I think good mobile devices, these days, are all about the fusion between good hardware *and* good software. You have to have both, it's nowhere near enough to just knock together nice hardware and talk about how many OSs it can run, or what kind of software it might run in the future, it's what the OS on that phone can do with that great hardware now that really matters. The best hardware in the world can be ruined by lousy or incomplete software, and vice versa - and in smartphones especially we've seen that play out way too often.

I agree that running win95 or osx is useless on a phone, but sometimes on my N900 I run the full debian OS to do specific things, like for example the desktop version of open office to edit document, and it's quit impressive and usable, and integrated in a window as if it was a maemo application. Debian runs at the same speed on my n900 as Ubuntu on my eeepc900, for comparison.
