I own both phones, and both take excellent photos, I probably prefer the c901 as it is smaller and handier but c905 is great as well.

those C905 comparison pics are all blurry.. that is not an accurate representation of C905 pics at all.
what does it really matter anyway? both cameras are so close, that you can't really go wrong with either one.

C905 probably has a stronger xenon flash, but C901 may take slightly better low light pictures (in certain situations), but these conditions can be overcome with the great custom drivers our amazing modders have put out here.
the 8mp vs 5mp really doesn't mean much to me, as I take mostly 5mp shots anyway with my C905 anyway.

If you just want a great camera , and a smaller phone I would say go with a C901, but if you want a great camera, and also wifi, and GPS.. C905 is the better choice.

there is really no point to splitting hairs here trying to determine which one is better. there will never be a clear winner.

It's very important which camera is better, it will answer this thread and stop people making assumptions of quality when they don't own either phones.

Is the C905 with a modded camdriver better than a 2MP camera?
And the C905 cam is better than the cam from the W995, right?

honestly if there is no cam mod for c901 ill go for c905
but..thanks to raiderski

I wanted to sum up the comparison between C901 & C905, other pics in this thread were low res and hard to compare, this way makes it easy to see each camera's strengths without being biased towards either one so we can finally answer the thread

Detail

100% crops from comparison
C901 left - C905 right

From these we can see C901 has more detail in it's photos despite it's resolution being smaller at 5 million pixels compared to C905's 7.9 million pixels, this is because the C905 applies a lot of noise reduction when processing it's photos, whereas C901 applies much less noise reduction. This explains why the C905 photo crop looks like its been smudged, this reduces noise but takes out a lot of detail.

Colour

The C905 produces more natural looking colours than the C901, the C905 photos are more saturated and look warmer, it seems to add more yellow to the photos compared to the C901 making the colours brighter and more natural in sunlight, you can see that on the photos above and especailly in the photos below

This photo shows it very clearly, C901 adds red, C905 adds yellow to its photos

Night without flash

There doesn't seem to be much difference with night photos without the flash, they are both around the same quality.
The main difference is the colour tint, it's hard to see without full size.

Indoors with flash

Here we can see that C905 has a stronger flash producing a clearer, warmer photo compared to the C901 which has colder colours

Outdoors with flash

There doesn't seem to be much difference here apart from colours, both have about the same range.

Macro

Here we can see C901 is the better photo, the red colour gives a good skin tone, and the picture is in sharp focus, the C905 photo is slightly blurred and has more noise.

From this we can see C901 has more detail, but C905 has better colours and a stronger flash, although I would still go for the C901 because colours can easily be manipulated whereas detail can't, with modding, saturation can be changed from low to high with a touch of a button. It's worth remembering that flash settings can be changed although C905 will most likely out-do C901 with its stronger xenon

Basing detail level at 100% crops is flawed if one camera is 5 mp and the other is 8. You need to resample the c901s pics up or the c905s down.

I noticed that too But in this case it doesn't matter because the quality is so different between the two photos, one is completely smeared and the other is much sharper, you'll still see that whether you scale up or down.
Example:

If you take a pic with of a tree with your C901 and then with your C905 and zoom in on the tree's leaves in playback you'll see less noise on C905 but much more detail on C901

But the last photo posted by mriley is just that. It's a comparison I posted here and later here. I scaled up the C901 by 26 percent and then cropped the same part from both photos. The original photos are from a comparison from mobile01 here.

AbuBasim is right, I nicked that photo off him !
I think my summary of the comparison is representative of the two cameras

This is an example of how more mega-pixels are not always better, it depends on the pixel density and more importantly the processing that is done to make the JPEG.
