I won a Sony Ericsson C905 on eBay for £108.99 including P&P However, there is a fault where the handset and seems to have a problem with it's charging The seller auction description quotes "The phone has never been used just taken out of the box so its in excellent condition the phone is unlocked to any network i am selling the phone as faulty as it does not always charge when plugged in a red light flashes near the charger but then sometimes it can charge that is the only problem with the phone it comes fully boxed with accessories plus a 2gb memory card which are new". I've emailed the seller asking more questions on the handset and so far been told it "it come with the original battery and charger" but still waiting to hear if if the USB cable and Software CD is also included I've also asked the seller if they have tried testing it another battery or charger which they have and said I've have tired another battery but it was still not turning on". Other than that i do not know the rest of the phone's history how long they had the handset or if it has been fully tested for other faults. The seller hasn't the orginal reciept of purchase, so i cannot send it back to Sony Ericsson Service Centre for repair under warranty.
Update from seller: "im not to sure about the service center it is
possible its still under warranty i bought it from a friend who got it on
contract and i was not able to turn it on with the 2 batteries i tried but
i didnt try anything else when you try to charge it a red light flashes
near to wear the charger goes in in the box is the earphones and an adapter
for the memory card i cant seem to find the usb cable"
"regarding the handset it is a vodafone handset it is unlocked as far as aware the phone
was working it has not been tested so i really dont know why it will not switch on"
I have heard and read on mobiles forums that the Sony Ericsson C905 did experience a range of faults and problems like earpiece, charging, buttons ect so kinda worried the phone may be more trouble then it's worth which i'll properly discover when i start using it. From my research, i know there could be 4 problems that could be causing the charging problem on the handset: the phone's firmware, battery, charging or the connection ports. I have already queried the fault around a few shops and been told that the connection port may need to be replaced and was quoted between £15-40 for the repair. But if the USB cable is included, i will try updating the phone's firmwave via SEUS to see if that will solve the charging problem first and if not then i shall proceed to get it repaired at the cheapest price.
I'm just wondering was it really worth to get this phone at this price and going ahead with the repair. What is your thoughs and suggestions?
Regards,
Yvonne

It may just be dust. Find a clean, dry toothbrush (preferably new) and brush both the fastport connector and charger connector pins. This has always fixed my charging connection problem on SE phones after learning that this is the first thing the technicians at the service center will do before they start testing it for other possible problems. Hopefuly it's as simple as it is for me to fix your problem

@ mode: Ok, i'll give that a try first and see if helps. Thanks for the tip.
I've decided to go ahead and buy the parts which i would need to replace from ebay:
GENUINE SONY C905 CHARGING BLOCK REPLACEMENT PART UK: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]06825&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Sony Ericsson C905 Charging Data Port Connector Unit: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]76896&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I don't know which correct part i needed so brought both which i hope either one is the correct part! If i need to go ahead with the repair if everthing else i tried fails, hopefully it may be work out cheaper having the part already and just pay labour/service just to fit the part.
By the way, the seller just has the memory adaptor and head phones included in the box, but i know the software and manual is easy to obtain from the Sony Ericsson website.
I've now paid for my C905 and waiting for it to be sent.

Flashing red light and not turning on is usually the boot system of the software. Had this happen on a few A200 SE phones. Usually a reflash via SEUS sorts it out. If SEUS doesn't work when you press C. Use buttons 2 and 5.

@ Rookwise: Ah ok, so part of the phone software may have been corrupted - EPROM?
I'll give that a try but as the handset is still branded to the Vodaphone network, i was thinking to get it unbranded as well which mean i have to get the handset re-flashed by non-SE service. I know sometimes with that method i can no longer update via SEUS as the firmware (like my C510 has exprienced) as Sony Ericsson produces many variants of each product, for different countries and languages and if you cannot update the software with Update Service, it could be because the software has not been approved by your service provider, operator, or carrier.

Use Davinci website and use the R1FA035 firmware with a CDA of 1205-9079 which is Customized UK.
You can also get the Cybershot sticker on Ebay to replace the Vodacrap one and a generic battery cover from www.cnn.cn OR you could just get your money back and buy my gold C905 from me :P lol

@ Rookwise: I never have tried flashing any of my Sony handsets nor willing to try, that's why i leave it up to other's to do that. I know someone who has unbranded both my Sony Ericssion C510 and my boy-friends K810 without a problem and both been working fine since so i would get my C905 unbranded by him (and i'll try to ask for the firmware that you have mentioned). I'm not to bothered about the branding on the phones casing (i'm sure they would can be easily replaced), i just want to get rid of the network branding on phone's software. My C510 was branded to Orange and when i got it debranded back to the orginal Sony Ericssion manufacture's, i was glad that i did!
I doubt i now can get my money back from eBay unless i find the phone is damaged/defective/not as expected/missing parts then i can contact, return it to the seller and claim a refund within 7 days of purchase.
What would be the main cause of this problem? Was it a common fault found on most C905 or was it on certain released versions of the handsets/firmwares?

I now recieved my C905 and it is indeed is new but did not have the original genuine Sony Ericcson BST-38 battery that came with the handset nor did the seller include the 2nd battery and USB data cable that i asked for.
UPDATE: The seller will be refunding me £15 as a resolvment of the missing parts.
Wne i tried to charge it there is a small around red light that blinks around there the charging/fast port. I have seen someone who posted the same issue on the fourm with their C905 too, so i know its a EROM / SEMC Boot that needs repairing which i'll get the guy who unlocks/unbranded my other phones to do this for me.
UPDATE: I accidently dropped my phone and my screen got a small scratch now But i found this on eBay which will hopefully help: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]ll?ViewItem&item=220520160058. Also got brought 2 black silicon cases and screen protectors for the phone.
I will be be putting my phone in repair tommorow and let you know it goes.

Ack. Things are not looking good with my C905 and the problem seems more than i thought and begining to feel gutted My phone can't be detected by the software he is using when he plugged in the USB data cable held down the C, 2 and 5 buttons. He also pointed out the the middle pin inside the phone where the battery goes is also bent out of place so it may be a hardware problem rather than software I've have left my phone with him so he can open it up and have a look inside as well as the PCB to see what is wrong and IF it is repairable . I will properly know the outcome of the handset tomorrow.
Except from what he told me, what else could cause this problem? Would there be anything on the PCB board that could have blown, fuzed etc?
Finally on a cheery note that i've finally reached my 500th post after being on Esato forum for 5 years and 2 months!

Water damage can also cause a charging problem.

Is that the sticker one the battery or the one on the main board ? They could have got a new battery and put it in the phone.com

@ Rookwise: Inside the phone on top of the battery compartment. I did not recieve the original Sony Battery that could came with the handset so don't know the status of the sticker on that. They have already tried another generic battery in the phone and it still does not switch on.

My C905 came back from repair and finally been fixed! I don't know the full extent of the repair but i was told it was something to to the the connection/fast port which was causing the problem (but i still may found out the full cause being curious) and they had to replace that part (which i had a feeling that would the solution) and paid £25 for the repair. I also go it de-branded to the Sony Ericsson firmware and have R1DA030 prg1205-9079_Generic_SI. I know this may not able me to update the firware via SEUS after de-branding it, but one thing i know that i'm very happy that it's working again!
Btw, the phone was made in 09Wk27.

Ok now i seem to have a problem when trying to update my C905 via SEUS. I followed the instructions on the update service but it doesn't seem to detected by SEUS at all even when pressing down C (or 2+5) buttons while the USB data cable was plugged in the phone.
I recently got it debranded from the Vodaphone network and have the current firmware installed:
R1DA030 prg1205-9079_Generic_SI.
Update: I managed to get SEUS to detect the phone on my PC but not on my boy-friends PC which was strange. I had a feeling it would say "No software is available for your phone". "Your phone already has the latest available software installed". Is it something to do with the EROM CDI no that is stopping it from updating via SEUS? I don't know what CDI is installed on my phone.
