follow the instruction given by StevenC and before you reinstall SE Software/PC Suite, go to:
> Computer > Local Disk > Users > Your User Name > AppData > Local > and search for a folder by the name of Sony Ericsson, delete the folder...

after you have done that, reinstall again SE Software/PC Suite

If it that didn't fix.

Go to My Computer > C:\\Program Files\\Sony Ericsson\\Update Service\\setup\\drivers
Find USBFlashDrivers.zip
Extract it there in a new folder, ex. USBFlashDrivers

Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Find "SEMC Flash Device", right-click it and select Properties > Driver > Update Driver
Select "Install from a list or specific location"
Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."
Select "Have disk" and browse to C:\\Program Files\\Sony Ericsson........ and choose "ggsemc.inf"

That should re-install the drivers and probably fix the problem.

I've tried installing/reinstalling the SE PC Suite & Update Service but I still get the ff: failed update behavior :

* Upon pressing the "C" button (or the 2+5 keys as suggested in other threads), WinXP flashes "New device found SEMC flash device etc.."
* XP freezes and the Update service gets stuck in the Connect stage

I noticed that the SEMC Flash device can't be found under the Universal Serial Bus controllers (tried Steven's fix when the reinstallation failed to fix the problem)

Appreciate any ideas - already went to the point of uninstalling MyPhoneExplorer & even my LG PC Suite in case they were causing conflicts. Have never got SEUS to work for me ever since I got my K800i years ago, very frustrating.

[Edit : After finding this link Installing USB Flash drivers I figured out that something is preventing XP from installing the necessary drivers so the SEUS flash process can proceed. Will post results here after I fix that (feeling more optimistic) ]
