Given that SE have struggled so much with regular old WM on phones like the X2, I just don't think they have the expertise or resources to get involved in WP7 - besides which, I just don't hold out much hope for WP7 as a contender generally. I think it's too little, far too late for Microsoft.

Here is a new leak info from the same person who leaked Shakira, Teacake and 5" android phone photos.
I took the challenge to translate it from Chinese and also corrected the text to make it more readable:

"The testing has begun of a WP7 phone codenamed Julie. The phone has a sliding QWERTY keyboard. It has similar to X10 size capacitive screen that supports multi-touch. The phone will have 1GHz or faster processor."
Other information is not known. The text also mentions integration with Xbox games.

Well put it this way, they have yet to prove me wrong! The X1 had a lot of help from HTC (and was basically built on HTC's own reference design as far as I can see) and still wasn't exactly perfect. The X2 was all SE, although still quite tied to the now tired technology of the X1, and if anything it was much worse - even after suffering embarrassing delays which saw them lose a deal with Vodafone.

Of course they may surprise me, they may have their best and brightest on the case to turn this all around and produce something amazing with WP7, but I still think the safer course would be to stick with Android and concentrate on the one area where they've actually had some success recently.

Even if they do it well, investing in the development of a whole new platform like WP7 is going to take resources away from Android, potentially losing them any edge they've built up there, in order to deliver WP7 phones that potentially and against all Microsoft's hopes, nobody will really care about.

The right codename of this device is Jolie.

WM7 should be easier for SE. They don't have to and aren't allowed to skin it. They or Sony are probably working on PS3 integration but there shouldn't be much more.

But that's exactly should be the strategy with Android too. I understand doing camera and media player apps. And preinstall those apps. But going vanilla android would be the biggest hit for them imho. Just think, they'll be the cool company that gets the latest updates. And seeing that most companies skin android, vanilla android is unique enough. And here's a question, can't SE have any input on the development through the OHA? And the se apps can be updated when there's an update.

Symbian, well I suppose the need to skin it as long as its still around.
I don't want a signature anymore.

If I am correct, the July phones should be released this year and the September ones are for next year. I think we will have very few phones released this year. wants to continue on from Pureness so expect something very attractive sometime in the future.

As for Jolie, soon after the release of WP7 you will realise how tight MS are with their OS. It will be a matter of buying the cheapest one since everything will have similar hardware. Its a shite OS which seems to be missing bit and bobs for the sake of making it pretty and fast. I think iPhone and Android will totally eat WP7 alive. Jolie is an X2 which has been forced to beef itself up by MS, at least you are guaranteed that there will be minimal software bugs. A WP7 mobile without a physical qwerty is utter whack if you actually use it for business purposes.
