Isn't that just a smaller X10? I thought Xperia was high end stuff, now they are chucking the name around until its like the current low end Walkman brand. Would it not be more appealing if it we black and orange? For the sake of survival, no innovation or risks any more therefore, nothing interesting. Nobody will bother with this, the X10 is the same but better. People say they prefer a smaller screen and don't need this or that feature but you'll always regret buying it when you see someone else with an X10. Make it look different, give it a different image, make it positively different to the X10 so that people will want it. The Mini has a qwerty, its tiny and unique which gives it identity. This doesn't do justice to the lovely singer Shakira. The UMPC is much more interesting than this. On Monday you'll get the new iPhone which honestly isn't anything ground breaking but they made the effort to make it different to the old one and its sure to succeed.
So wait it is coming? The new iPhone that is, like the one Gizmodo showed? If so then, holy shit, can't wait. First iPhone that ever caught my eye, even if I'm buying the Vivaz Pro this summer.

I agree with whoever pointed out that this move is diluting the X10 series a bit too much. SE has the best phone designers around and am sure they could've come up with a fresh new sleek design for this next X. There are enough of the X10 versions around already. What in the world is going on in the heads of SE?!!
Anyway, I don't expect it to have anything better nor equal to the X10 in hardware.
I find the 5'' tablet-like leak more interesting than this rehash of the X10 that is getting tiresome IMO.

Hey guys, great news for the thread!
Good news is that I got internet again, and the thread has an owner once again.
Bad news....is that I now have to compile 6 months of leaks, announcements, updates, rumors and all that. |

I'm by now pretty sure it is the W150i indeed. QVGA resolution, new/different browser (the same as the Spiro has, which is definitely not A2 platform), that fits...

If the new Walkman (that is supposed to be W150) is running Android, I hope somebody will be able to port it for other Android phones - it would be cool to have a Walkman player on the new Shakira or on X10/X10 mini/mini pro |

yeah i was thinking exactly the same thing....the X10 seems to have more screen / body ratio than shakira! altho still quite glad are really developing more phones with android
a bit more polish and a few more features eg.
equaliser in music player
and divx / xvid support
plus hopefully more quicker updates of android and should do amazing with their new range |

So that would mean that they misuse their nice X10 Mini design for some crappy Sagem phone?!? That would suck man!

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with expanding the Xperia range the way they are doing.
I'm more worried about it becoming cheapened by applying the brand to lower end devices.

This is also my worry. I really hope not. |

The Xperia X10 has undoubtedly made an impact and is selling well after being marketed heavily. Shakira should attract those buyers who are requiring a more normal sized device.
I must say though, that the white version (mock up) looks absolutely superb.

The Xperia brand was initially about user experience so the X10 is unique as is the mini due to its size but the midi? Its diluting what should be exclusive and making it just a name like Walkman and Cybershot. Having low end Walkman and Cybershot is important for sales of course but you want high end stuff so that people will associate quality to the brand as well i.e. a low end Walkman will have a crappy camera but the music experience should be great. Having no high end stuff makes the brand average to everyone.
will argue that the Entertainment Unlimited phones merge the best aspects of both but were are these phones and shouldn't they be high end? I'm for the Vivaz and Pro versions but the Pro should be Xperia and Vivaz should be Cybershot. This X10 midi should either get an 8/12MP camera and be a Cybershot or get 32GB memory and be a Walkman. Back in the day, I used to be excited about the Walkman versions of the already exciting Cybershots.
In terms of strategy, there should be more low ends but there has to be at least one high end for each brand like before. The low and mid stuff will be milked for cash but for the image of the company, you need high ends. If you want to launch a new product you focus on the brand to carry it through initially regardless of quality. I see a lot of people with the W995 even though it seems old skool with no touch and A2 but it has an excellent music player, people can forget that its old technology when its marketed well.
Since have major shortages in its design department, do an X10 with 12MP camera and call it Cybershot also, do an X10 in black and orange and call it Walkman. Stick to your Spilo, Zylo or whatever they are but get the branding defined and go easy on Xperia. |

Of course, one of the reasons for the Xperia brand in the first place was to move away from the idea that customers would have to choose from either or Cyber-shot to have good imaging or music capabilities and of course they won't have to pay royalties to parent company Sony for the use of these two powerful brand names, so I'm not surprised we're seeing less and cybershot.
The X10 already has one of the best cams in the Android sphere and it's music and media capabilities aren't bad at all - at least people can be sure they won't be missing one or the other.
Personally, I don't think Symbian gives the best user experience, not the way it is in Vivaz right now and if I was I wouldn't brand any S60 device with the Xperia brand at all, not yet anyway and neither of the previous Xperia WM phones have been smash hits - far from it.
