Great post! They never talk up anything about their products and seem to believe that a product that is good enough will sell itself - this, I believe, is a Sony trait.

Their marketing needs to be more upfront and direct.

It's definitely an Ericsson trait Goldenface, it's the engineer's engineering company in a country full of engineers. Sony were supposed to bring the pizazz and the market knowledge and the understanding of the user to the whole Sony Ericsson joint venture. They were supposed to sex up SE. The fact that Sony themselves are as sexy as a 70 year old granny in a bikini any more does not help SE one little bit right now but there should be enough good people in there to know that this is not the way to meet your consumers in a very very competitive market space.

Nothing against Rickard obviously. I am sure he is great at his job but there should be sales & marketing people getting out in front of the blog camera and delivering honest but SELLING and positive information to the consumers about why their hard earned cash is best spent on these products.

Where Rickard would be excellent is doing a live Q&A with the really clued in guys on here. That would be interesting for him and interesting for you. For the guys like me that want to love my gadget and is not THAT worried about what goes on underneath, I want someone to convince me that that was 500 well spent and it does things better than any other gadget I could have bought.

Yes, definitely an Ericsson trait! In all my years of using Ericsson phones the one area they lacked in was marketing their products properly. They were/are just too frigid!!!

Sony on the other hand had the sex appeal but you are right, they aren't bringing it to the fore in this joint venture.

Pity.

Battery life is good on the X10 IMO, around the same as what i got with the Nokia 5800 with my useage.
Its pocket friendly, i wear jeans that are a bit tight (not too tight like skinnies though) and it sits just fine in my pocket. Handling it maybe an issue for the 1st week or so especialy since you're coming from the Mini. The X10 is realy wide AND tall, it requires your fingers to be spread a bit when in hand, coming from a 5800 i found it difficult to handle my X10 in the beginning, but overtime i got used it and now it feels just fine.

I was sat on a bus and the bus went over a speed-bump and it flew out of my hands like a bar of soap I caught it luckily, after the 3rd attempt.

I have dropped mine whilst running down the street, it flew out of my pocket and crashed to the floor, battery come out etc, but it was unscathed, fortunately.

@moogoo

Bad luck fella. Do you have the instructions to take it apart? I've taken apart a few phones and the X10 doesn't look as complicated as some phones I've done.

This link has been reliable before.

Release usually follows 2-3 weeks after certification.

Ye the X10 can handle some abuse, my 3yrld baby sis took mine and threw it against the wall like it was a cheap toy ,it hit the wall, batt cover popped off, the only damage done is on the chrome/metal rim at the top on the back behind the power key, that metal rim has cracked and slightly raised near where it curves to the side, but hardly noticeable realy, but when i run my finger there i can feel it.

@goldenface - yea. my x10 must have hit the tile floor perfectly. battery fell out and cracked the screen in the corner with spider cracks. I don't have the instructions yet, but I'll look them up once i get the digitizer, which should be here in 2-3 weeks (coming from China of course). My phone is naked (i.e., no protection at all). Makes me wonder if it would have made a difference if i had kept on the protective stuff.

I guess I shouldn't take anymore chances. It happened cause it slipped out of my hand as I was taking it out of my pocket to answer a text. I should invest in something to give me more grip. I suppose that is the plus side to the black version, but the white is so sexy!

I am very annoyed that the white version is now available in the US, but I guess it was just a matter of time. There goes my exclusivity...

I invested in a wrist strap. The one I have now is smaller than the one pictured but I honestly believe my phone will be a lot worse off without one.

Anyone else find that the screen is a total fingerprint magnet. Mine get's filthy.

I know it sounds silly but one of the best things on this phone is the blinking status light. So handy not having to touch the phone to see if you've got an email/SMS/call.
