FTR: 262K is also unacceptable in this day and age.

I agree 65k is a bit low (not unacceptable, that's ridiculous to say about some colours in the screen. 4096 would be, but 65k is pretty ok). But to say that 262K is unacceptable is bs. Most probably, the human eye can't even see 16M colours and though we can see more than 262K that's only a verry small difference in real life. Not only that, the fact too is that most of todays phones have "only" 262K colours so if you think it's unnacceptable for these times, it's you who has to think again. That's like saying that every phone must have an 8MP cam, because there are a couple that have so.

There is one additional thing that has to be considered, namely the number of brightness levels the human eye can distinguish for one single colour. It is generaly accepted that the eye can easily detect around 256 different levels of grey, for example. Or 256 levels of green, of blue, of red. Unfortunately, this number is only attained with a 16 M colours display: 3 x 8 bits per basis colour (R, G, B), or 256R x 256G x 256B total colours. 256 K colours displays only will enable you to have 64 different levels of grey (6 bits per colour). And you will see strong banding. And it is even worse wit a 64 K colour system, of course.

Page 33 and the complaints still haven't stopped?

I have a 16m phone (Satio) and I don't see a perceivable difference while watching a video on it vis-a-vis an X1. In fact, i'd have liked a 256k screen on the Satio because that'd have improved the battery life.

So all you spec-sheet warriors, keep on bickering. Don't ever stop. It's immense entertainment for those of us blessed with a level head.

That is a battery problem on SATIO ... not screen.... They could use a 1500mAh... I had mentioned the battery issue back then but you had said that ...for one more time... "Oh .. it's a perfect phone....@sealover stop saying bad things..."

SE must improve the screen of their 2010 high-end phone.
As i said :

I just thought of this thread when some members started complaining about the X10 screen

No that's the difference... look at the sky ....

So for you wondering does it matter if screen is 65k or 262k colors? The answer is YES !

Let me clarify this:
1) 65k colors means 16 bit colors, and this is made using 32 Red colors, 64 Green and 32 Blue (2^5=32, 2^6=64, 5+6+5=16 bits, 32x64x32=65536 colors)
2) 262k (18 bit) colors are made using 2^6 colors in every three channel. (2^6=64, 64x64x64=262144)
So in 16 bit system green has 2^6 different tone as human eye is most sensitive to green color. So with 65k colors you have in fact just as good green as with 262k colors. Only the red and blue is problematic. That's why the blue-ish problem in x10 screen !

haha.. spec sheet warrior.. i like that.

I for one have never been disappointed with an SE screen. I'll reserve judgment til I can see it in person, which will be when I buy it! ha.

I am curious though, if SE plans to release the X10a the same time as the X10. I don't want to wait 6 months extra for the american version...

And question about the video recording, EDIT:... nevermind i looked it up

I'm extremely satisfied with the battery life of my Satio, actually. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't wish for more, does it? If you can't figure out that a 16M screen is more power hungry than a 256k one, I feel nothing but sympathy for your utter lack of common sense.

BTW, I don't ever recall calling it a perfect phone. Do provide quotes if you can refute that. I'm, waiting.

Don't let that distract you from your core objective though. By all means, continue with the Whine-a-thon.

Edit:

From what I remember seeing, there is only 1 version of the X10 and it's universal, compatible with AT&T and T-Mo frequencies.

@Synn,

there seems to be two unfortunately. Being in the US, i get redirected to X10a website.

I would assume that means there's an american version since that's always been the case with the "a" in the name.

+10000000000000000

seriously sealover, i think i speak for most, if not all, those following this thread. By now, we FULLY understand your issues with the screen. But we dont need to hear it 5352 times...

Sure every one is entitled to an opinion, but your taken it to a whole new (albeit a very annoying) new level!

And commenting on a screens performance from videos/photos, and with no hands on experience with the x10, rediculous!

Let it go!

1. Sealover has a perfect right to post his opinion here, the same as you.
2. You have absolutely NO right to speak for anyone else here.

He speaks for me, Ron Jeremy and quite a few others who have vocally expressed their displeasure at sealover's annoying, never-ending cryfest.

Got any beef with that?

care to re-read my post?

i said he is entitled to his opinion, bet lets be 'mature' about it hey, is there really a need for him to post nothing except stuff regarding the screen?

again though, please re read my post if you think i dont want him to have an opinion. and yes, i speak for many others, rather than 50 of us asking him to stop, read over, you will see im not the only one

Any Idea when you're receive a show-off unit? The interface does indeed look spectacular and on such a large screen it'll certainly be a show stopper - or magical as you so nicely put it. All those icons dancing around is great.

Do you know if it will be customisable at at all? For instance will we be able to choose the screen background colour, etc?
