hi all
i normally wouldnt creat a thread like this. but im really in a bit of a pickle!

im ready to buy a new phone. have recently had w995 and aino, and played with x1 quite a bit as well as numerous other phones at work.

dont want a full touch screen handset as i need a physical keypad/keyboard. so would do an x1 style phone. smartphone or not doesnt make a difference.

my primary requirements are the following:
-good battery life
-good audio quality
-2.4" screen minimum
-wifi
-nothing over 16mm thick
-hsdpa on both 900/2100 mhz bands (yes i know most phones operate on this unless you get an american phone or blackberry which are often 2100 only or 850 and 2100)
- camera not important, 3.2mp with AF plus minimum of QVGA video @ 30fps would be the minimum id go for
- good web browser, either standard or the ability to add opera or something else. flash support is a bonus.

ive narrowed it down (a big list though so narrow not the best term to use lol)
*nokia e52 or e55 , both have very serious firmware issues by the looks of it. nokia forum full of complaints. love the size and battery life and has decent audio going by gsmarena reviews
*SE w995, had one not long ago, liked it, especially for music and build quality.
*SE aino. just had one. got rid of it... not really too sure why. but would defo consider one again.
*SE x2. WM 6.5 defo better than 6.1. at least in my eyes. keyboard looks great to use and fantastic battery. price though? dont mind it uses same processor as x1. x1 on latest rom is fast enough. and wm 6.5 is more efficient.
*blackberry tour 9630 or bold 9700. both are only 2100mhz compatible, 9700 has bigger screen but has trackpad rather than trackball found in tour, so imo would be harder to navigate with a trackpad. similar in size too
*touch pro 2, size is the only issue here

any other phones people would like to suggest then feel free

any input is appreciated

ta

I would highly recommend looking at the new NOKIA N97-Mini and the upcoming E72, i think both tick almost if not every thing you want, also look at the N86 8MP if you want a W995 type device with an OS, and even the Palm PRE if its available in your country.

looked at both n97 and the mini, no go due to 128mb ram. and the fact it has the 400 (ish)mhz processor rather than the ones found in e52/e55/e72 which are 600mhz. if n97 had the faster processor with 128mb ram i would have considered it. even if they just bumped it up to 256mb ram i would have considered it.

not a fan of the n86...

e72, places that have it our a little outta my budget i think.

palm pre. would suss one out. forced to buy a branded one though from the US.

I don't know why you ditched the Aino but it seems like the one to consider for your needs.

I've been reading up on it and the only thing I'd struggle with is the part touchscreen feature, but since you say you want physical keypad I don't see that bothering you.

Excellent music/sound quality, sidneylopsides over at m-r says it beats the W995 in that department. Excellent screen quality, again better than W995, better camera quality than W995. Fast menu navigation and very good build quality.

And then there are some nifty little features that make it a joy. Also, the touch part of the screen is said to be the closest to the Iphone.

It definitely beats Satio in user experience.

Sounds to me like a winner! I see this phone helping SE in terms of the much needed sales.

yea Aino will be a best seller. people will love the remote ps3 feature.

i think i may go Aino again. didnt try the sound when i had it, but as you said Dups, sounds better then w995 as ive read, which i had and thought SQ was great for a mobile!

should keep me tied until Rachael comes. yes i know i dont want TS, but 4" and capacitive i wont have many problems typing and im a fan of Android.

I use two lines and if this phone wasn't a slider I would definitely snatch it. One line has to be a smartphone and I have already decided on Rachael as my second and main phone.

Overall I'm really impressed with what SE has accomplished here. Pretty stable and does what it does excellently, now when last did SE come up with a stable phone that was well featured and worked this good?

Good luck on your choice mate. I'm still deciding on what my other phone will be, Blackberry have caught my eye but I still have about 2 months to go before my first upgrade.
