Thats a great choice! I recently got the chance to play on a mates N97, and i thoroughly enjoyed it! What a brilliant piece of kit it is, yes it has less RAM than Satio, but the rest of the device is just great, and its got a major firmware update coming its way later this month, should make it even sweeter than it already is. I would have also suggested the N97-Mini but if you're happy with N97 then go for it.

GUCCI.011 thanks my only wish now is for Nokia to fully support Mac's where I can update my software etc through a Mac. However I believe the N97 supports over the air software updates. If worse comes to worse, i will just have to get it updated at my mates house lol.

Yep,you can update straight from the phone, for every NSU update theres an OTA one, the OTA updates are only 12mb at max, and yet give the same improvements and features as NSU update would, and those can be upto 200mb. So its better to just do OTA.

How reliable is OTA ? Because when I had my n73 I had that option available but it never really did say new s.w was available. Even though there was. And I had to update it on da pc I had at the time? Also how long do u reccomend I charge da phone for ? Shall I charge it fully then let it drain till low battery and then charge it fully again ? Someone said do this 3 times. What is the best way to do this?

It is, really. I updated my N86 FOTA and it works very well.

You should have get the Satio. Know why? With Satio you'll going to get the best of both worlds. SE's multimedia+Nokia's OS. That easy, no brainer.

Really - apart from inadequate memory, flaky firmaware, self harming camera cover and clueless GPS ? Getting the Care Point lowdown on the Nokia N97 camera glass and GPS and check Nokia's own discussion forums for the howls of anguish. V20 FW whenever it turns up will hopefully sort some problems but can't fix hardware restricitions/design flaws (see N96) I think gonna see this phone deprioritised after N97 mini (the N97 done right) and New Year announcements. They've got 15% discount offers on Facebook and if Mr Miyagi was able to get such a good deal off Nokia themselves seems they want/need to shift it

Any bugs are always updated via a firmware update No mobile phone is around which is problem free. So its normal for a phone to have a bug now and again that is why the mobile makers bring out new software updates and that is why your warranty is given on the mobile to help cover any costs and fix anything free of charge warranty related:). Regarding the camera glass well if you aint taking care of your product then clearly you will have some damage on it. If the design was so bad don't you think Nokia would have immediately taken this product off the production line and did a recall? anyways I am not going to get into an argument about this.

From the experience my friend has had from this phone and his other friend has been absolutely great, and a good review on gsm arena and other forums is good enough information for me for this phone. Regarding the deal I think its a good enough deal especially since I have not seen any discount being given on any facebook site. I could have easily paid full price for this handset, if i didn't ask for a discount. So I am happy with that too. If you don't like this handset or got nothing better to say then I suggest you say nothing in this thread. Keep this thread to the topic it is already on. Thanks

Nothing personal and I sincerely hope you enjoy your new phone. I myself have a N97 at the moment.

My reply was to Bonovox's msg and was I believe right on topic you just disagree with me which is fair enough and your God given right to do. And I do think the price you got is really good where do I say other?

Enjoy

reading more about the camera glass looks like this was for the earlier n97's and Nokia themselves have admitted the issue and are covering the camera glass replacement foc under warranty.

yup the camera cover problem occurred on the early production runs. i've had my N97 for 3 months now and not a scratch on my lens. it does help to always keep it clean though, and not just the lens but also the side that is exposed when the lens is covered since that is usually where the dirt comes from.

i'm quite happy with my N97. it's not perfect, but then no device is. i suggest the first thing you do is to install handy taskman. so long as you manage your RAM properly, then you should be ok. also, keep in mind that some widgets cause stability problems when you keep them on your homescreen. i personally leave them off the screen and therefore don't experience any freezes or things of the sort.

also, install all apps in your mass memory if possible. if you can, uninstall the pre-installed ones and reinstall them in the mass memory, as space on the C: drive is limited and very valuable. you can download most of the pre-installed stuff from the ovi store, but before you do, make sure that you configure your ovi store settings so that it installs apps in you mass memory. the only app i recall that i couldn't download again was the amazon.com widget, so if you want to keep that, then just leave it on your C: drive.

good luck and enjoy your new toy!
