Cheers whizkidd, some good points made there.
The last few days i've been reading heavily about Maemo 5 & the N900 & despite the weight (180g) i'm actually really liking what i see here. I know i mentioned earlier that i was a bit dubious of perhaps being an 'early adopter' but out of the box i think this OS offers more or less exactly what i'm after. Full flash 9.4 playback in the browser. full HTML emails, firmware updates over the air & a trusted and frequent supplier of support & software progression in Nokia (something i'm still less than 100% convinced by with Samsung) to name a few key points.
Hardware wise i think the N900 has a good spec & more or less would do eveything the Omnia HD can do (- camera of course). At the moment the Omnia HD is still right up there for me as a next device but i think the N900 might have just crept into the lead based on the videos/pics i've been seeing regarding the OS & its speed & responsivness. |

If i had the dosh id get the N97, OmniaHD and N900 ...........back to earth.
Checkout the apps already available for Maemo: http://maemo.org/ over 300 as far as i know.N900 is going to be quite a machine.

Cheers for the link GUCCI, just spent some time flicking through the various apps. Some look very impressive & actually very usefull (unlike the hoards of gimmicky iphone apps out there) I don't think for one minute that any manufacturer or OS developer will catch apple & thier app store anytime soon in the next few years but its good to see that Maemo is actually more established & more supported than I thought it was |

Reading that review.....
"The N900 has 2Gb reserved for user applications (as opposed to 90Mb in earlier firmware versions)."
Maemo & N900 sounding better & better |

Phone OS ?
Windows Mobile ONLY - everything else is a joke ! (I mean up to WM 6.x - from what I've seen anonced on WMC about Widows Phone 7 series - it may become a step backward ...) |

Yes, that's a very nice joke itself. WM6 is a joke in terms of usability. And if you don't have proper usability, I'm sorry, but no matter how good the other features are, the OS will fundamentally suck.

the future belongs to open source sytems, there's no place for WM7 which is a huge step backward. iPhoneOS is most attractive for developers because of many reasons but the future is very bright for Android. I would like to move from iPhone development to Android. I don't know what will happen with Symbian, looks like the best years are gone and nothing better is waiting for this OS. Bada from Samsung will be a niche system
