I don't want to hack this thread but what are the major differences between dumb and smart?
There is no hard and fast definition. I think the easiest way to think of it is the difference between a phone dedicated to one specific purpose (ie a basic mobile phone) and a more powerful pocket computer that happens to also have phone functionality. That's the traditional view, but of course it's gotten confused as basic phones have become "feature phones" and accumulated a whole array of other functionality too like cameras, music players, internet browsers etc.
Smartphones are still, generally, a more "open" platform though. While a feature phone may have access to Java apps, a smartphone will generally be able to run much more powerful native apps that are written specifically for the phone's own OS (eg Winmo, Symbian, Android, iPhone OS) - these apps are more powerful because they have much greater access to the device's full capabilities. Someone will no doubt argue here that the iPhone OS doesn't qualify because it's a lot more locked down than the others, doesn't allow multitasking etc, but in fairness it does allow apps to be much more integrated into the phone and access hardware etc that java wouldn't get near.
There are various arbritary qualifications that people use to describe a smartphone - eg, it must have email, it must multitask, it must have a touchscreen, it must have a qwerty etc - but in reality its very rare to find even one phone that satisfies all these supposed requirements. The true smartphone is some approximation of all these things, and whatever works for you, IMHO.

Sorry but how can a non 3G phone have full You Tube support? You Tube is useless without 3G its even sometimes crap on 3G.

@bonovox - via wifi I guess. 3G's good too, and obviously a lot more useful on the move, but if I could only have one or the other I'd go for the phone with wifi.

Have you ever consider the 5800? I think going for UIQ operating system, isn't good idea right now. |

Hmmm....I am not very keen on 5800 mainly because of its look and 3g is not available here and its somewhat above me at 13,500/- bux ......but 5530 looked very inviting ...but g900 seemed a good deal even though its quite a old phone on a absolete platform now
