I am a dumbphone user for 6 years ....so now looking to jump to a smartphone bandwagon but can't spend big....so is a Touch Viva @ 11,000 INR worth it ? And is it a good smartphone or go for a Symbian smartphone like Nokia 5530

Ur feedbacks welcome

I think you really need to know why you're switching to a smartphone - what do you want from it? What kind of things are important to you about your current "dumbphone" - for instance, how important is speed to you? Some smartphones can be noticeably slower to do certain things than feature phones. Are you after better internet, or music/multimedia experience, or the best camera, or the best for email/editing documents/work on the move? What specifically makes you think "I need a smartphone for that"?

The Touch Viva is a fairly cheap and cheerful WinMo phone - it would be quite adequate for email/working, some internet (if you have Wifi, otherwise the network connection will be fairly slow), but things like gaming and video would probably be a bit of a struggle due to the slow processor, and the camera's nothing to write home about.

The 5530 might be a little faster and a little better for multimedia, but it wouldn't be quite so focussed as a business phone. It really depends what you want...

Your description of your needs make you a prime candidate for the iPhone but it's very resource hungry.
You could look at a 2nd hand P1i or X1, or an N95 1GB/8GB.

iphone is way out of my league ..it retails at 30,000 bux in my country

not really interested in 2nd hand phones ...but was also interested in a new G900 .....but not sure about whether to get a UIQ phone now and it seems htc's touch flo interface makes windows mobile phones a much more pleasant experience

Seeing as there's no 3G where you are id say take the 5530xm has everything you need. 3.2mp AF cam with LED flash, VGA@30FPS video recording, large touchscreen, weighs just 107g, has Flashlite3.1 so it supports full YouTube, and full Facebook so it doesnt need 3rd party apps for them but it has a FB and Twitter client built in and a couple of other 3rd party clients. Its very well priced for what you get, and in some points is capable of more than its more expensive rivals, not gona mention any names though.

I think I'd go for the 5530 too in your shoes, for the money it offers a lot and is probably going to be a lot less frustrating than the Touch Viva - Windows Mobile can be a bit of a handful even on the best handsets, and with the limited specs of the Viva it's probably not going to be the best introduction to the smartphone world, not for what you're after anyway.

Lol,you mean the 5230? Yep looks decent, has 3G/HSPA, a larger screen, larger battery, 2mp camera and GPS, realy interesting, but im sure that 2mp camera is going to be awful, but otherwise overall the phone seems to be better than the 5530xm.

yeah 5230 it is ..... the official press release says that 5230 is 11,999/- and 5530 is 13,999/- ...thats the only thing going for 5230 ....otherwise i prefer the 5530 with its 3 mp cam and wi-fi

Sounds like the 5230 might be a bit limiting though since it swaps wifi for 3G - and you have no 3G! Assuming you have easy/free access to wifi, I'd pay the extra for the 5530.

when 5530 releases if its reasonably priced i will get it ..since already here 5800 retails for 15,000/- so hopefully 5530's price will be adjusted according to that ....

and on the other hand my friend is trying to convince me to get a BB8520 ..which I was also interested in ....

Stick with the 5530xm, i agree with Boinng.
Getting the BB wouldnt be a bad idea but will it be in your price range? Still think you should stick with 5530xm it offers more at a lower price.

Hopefully it will be 5530xm .....BB seems too costly to own and use
