i'm trying to decide which one to get...

i've never used win mo before so i have no idea how they compare to each other

my major concern is i dont want the phone to be lagging, and im afraid x1 might have that issue because of win mo, but at the same time x1 is so much more sleek than n97, also x1 only support a-gps instead of gps/a-gps like the n97

any comments will be much appreciated

cheers

There's no comparison between windows mobile and symbian.
Still n97 is just "smartphone wanna be" and waste of money so i would advice you to get x1 instead or new omnia hd which own both x1 and n97.

N97 was horribly slow when I got it and it was lagging to death.
Sold it immediately after I got it!
Was a very bad experience: lagging, slow, restarts...
Dunno now if it got better with the latest software updates from Nokia.

Go for the n97 mini if you want a more svelte nokia.
I have owned both the x1 and the n97 and to be fair the n97 is the better phone.
Its true when first released the n97 was a horrible buggy beast but mines pretty stable now and the new firmware in October with kinetic scrolling will make it more useable.
My x1 was a dissapointment to use the handset felt like an old htc model or a vanilla windows 6.1 model.
Little things like group msgs which were included as standard on my touch hd werent there on the x1. Though they were developed around the same time.
Other annoyances were the build quality it may look slick but mine suffered all the usual cracking problems even though it was looked after and kept in a case.

One of the rubber triangle covers for the screws on the back of the slide fell off.

It was noticeabley more sluggish than my touch hd which i had at the same time even though they had the same processor. It had a 1500 ma battery which should have meant a good battery life but this wasnt the case.

The single strength/reception was also poor compared to the touch hd (although the size of the touch hd meant it cud have a bigger internal aerial i guess) and where i work it lost sinal a lot because of poor reception (touch hd would have one bar x1 none) and even when i went outside it would regain signal without resetting the handset.

The optical pad was dreadful and even though id switch it off it was forever switching back on. (the omnia and innov8 both have superior optical pads)

The music player on the panels used to skip or go off when the screen went off.
I felt the screen was too small for its resolution and although small the phone felt very thick and heavy in your pocket.
In all the x1 was a frustrating experience I too was sold on its looks but ownership was a different matter.

Im tempted by the x2 as its got the best specs ive seen on a windows mobile device (why do htc loathe putting flashes on there devices so much?) but theres already been mention that the phones still feels very manilla like and not optimised enough so ill try before I buy this time me thinks.
Between the n97 and the x1 the n97 has the better camera, storage space and build quality. The x1 has the better keyboard but thats about it really.
Will a phone manufacturer give us personalised txt alerts as a standard feature plz!

Both of them are nice. It depends on your choice of operating systems.. IF you like windows mobile then go for x1 or if you like symbian go for n97. ITs not true that n97's camera is better than x1i's. I have some picture, which i tuk with my x1i, n96 and friend's n97. n strangely n96 was really bad, x1i and n97 were almost similar. SOme cases n97's was better and in some x1i's. However, if you take video recording in account , then n97 is clearly much better than x1i. But dont forget to check out n97's keypad, as i really dont like it. The build quality of newer x1i's has been improved, and so are their internal design.

The n900 and satio are also good phones.
