Hi guys, anyone ordered themselves a 3gS? If so what's your first impressions (when you get it tomorrow). I would like to keep this different from the general discussion.

I ordered mine earlier this week and am porting my number. Today I have had a shed load of texts from o2 (and I was on virgin), but no shipping info?

This is my 1st upgrade since the 2g 2nd model came out and I have never had internet on the move before. I am quite looking forward to it arriving.

I've not bothered, I'm going to stick with 3.0 on my 3G for a while and then get the 3GS

I just got mine through the post.

Was a bit pissed it doesnt come with a dock like the 2g one did, but it has a new plug, smaller then a normal electrical plug but takes a usb! Very impressive, I am surprised we haven't seen things like this before?

The 3G didn't come with a dock either, and it too had an AC adaptor which essentially just turns your 3 pin socket into a USB port.. but apparently the 3GS version is smaller still?

well, obviously its much of a muchness being so similar to the 3G, but I can notice some speed improvements in safari for sure, and in google maps.

I love the compass. In fact even though I carry the iphone, and the 5800 with garmin in it, I still always carry a small pocket compass and so thats now one less thing in my pocket.

can't wait to get home tonight to load it up. Finally I won't have to be always trying to fit my daily video podcasts into my last 2GB of space! Unfortunately that will be a late night session as we're going to see Pet Shop Boys at the o2 first

I am just re-storing from my 2g back up now. I haven't used it yet, but I am getting a shed load of pop-ups and texts from the new sim. I saw the new 3.0 picture messaging service yesterday and that really is nice!

I half wish I splashed for the 32gb model, as I actually have a good 28gb of music, but lets be honest if I filled that I would not listen to all the music.

The restore is going pretty fast so far, done about 6gb in 20min. On the 2g originally it was very slow.

Indeed the new plug is smaller. Between 1-2cm tall.

Also worth noting the headphones have the volume up and down keys on now. Great little function along with the play and pause as when listening to music that is the no 1 reason why I have to get it out of my pocket. It also has a slidey spacer that attaches to one cord, and attach to the other cord of the headphones. I do not know the reason for this.

but its not really all about listening to all the music at the same time, its more about listening to anything you fancy from your music collection when you fancy it.. .not when you go and re-synch your choices

32gb will probably keep me going for another year!

Why do you always carry a compass??

I did quite often but not always, but like yourself my device (G1) has replaced that now so I always have it.

There is a skymap app available on Android which shows the stars exactly as you look at the sky with the phone, I don't know if it is available for the iPhone but worth a look to see!

The number one reason I take mine out of my pocket is to FF or RWD tracks. On phones the volume keys double as skip keys but not in the iPhone 3G - how about on the S ?

A friend of mine taught me how to work out where North is by using the sun and a wristwatch. Never need a compass again - unless its night time I guess

@nanu, force of habbit I guess. I've always done alot of orienteering (in fact bush walking, canyoning, abseiling, climbing etc) and I just like to know, even in the city, which direction is North (or E, S or W!)

my compass was a little tiny one that can slide onto my watch strap, but my current watch strap is too wide for it

on the headphones of the iphone it has always had a button, press it once and it play/pause, press it 2 times and it skips track, and 3 times back a track. Was pretty cool, thats now been made better with a volume button too.

I am going to sound a bit retarded now.

I got the iphone at work and have my new o2 sim in it and want to connect to the internet. I have full signal and the 3g icon in the corner and data roming turned on, however for some reason I cannot get on to the internet without connecting to a wi-fi network

Do I need to activate it or something?

did you get a payg?

mine is payg but the data settings were for a contract phone and I also couldn't get a 3G connection

I had to go to settings > general >network > cellular data network and change the Cellular Data APN to payandgo.o2.co.uk. Originally it was idata.o2.co.uk

I'll be changing mine back once I've got home and synched it as I'll be putting my original contract sim in it
