I am moaning because, at last, it has the features I want but is too bl**dy expensive and I can not justify the cost.

I'll second that notion, I would sell my G1 and 32GB iPod Touch tomorrow if only it wasn't so outrageously priced!

It does seem pricey at the moment. My guess is at some point in the nearish future, the older 3G will be phased out completely with the 16GB S taking it's place, and the prices will be reshuffled and cut at the same time. There's obviously some impressive new silicon in the S giving it all that speed, maybe they need to cover some extra costs there.

the price is the downside really.
I guess they put a worm on the hook with the original iphone, cast it out to see who they could catch with the iphone 3g, and now we're all hooked they think they can expect us to pay more for this new 3G S....
unfortunately where I'm concerned they're probably right! I've been scratching my head all morning working out the best way to get the 32gb... do I take another contract and pay out the old which has 7 months left, and then sell the old 3G 16gb which will more than make up for that payout)
do I get a payg 32gb and just sell the old 3g 16gb and then I have no contract, which is my pref, but am I missing out on some of the contract benefits?
hmmmm....
btw, if you use quidco and buy from CPW, you get £45 back. Unfortunately iphone is excluded from quicdo when buying direct from O2

will probably be cheaper buying one from Aus masseur?
the 3g iphone was cheaper to buy here than uk, no?
i plan on getting it free on my $89 cap, gonna have to fight with Optus for it though, if not, i dont mind switching to my 3 staff plan. which gives me pretty much unlimited data, mobile tv, etc etc etc

I'm not going to lie, I never really liked the iPhone. Apart from the UI and apps (which are very subjective anyway) it's very very dull. The spec was bad, the smell was bad and it held no use in my life. then my friends all (I mean literally all of them) got the 3G. I played with it and it reinforced my notions already mentioned, but I always though the 3rd generation iPhone will be something to behold. There is so much potential for it to be THE all conquering device but I'm left severely deflated, but happy at the same time. As I said I don't like the iPhone and want it to fail but it hurts to see the potential they have being so badly wasted.

I reckon you've probably got a little while longer to wait

Was just thinking about this and occured to me that the prices of the new 3GS are not in relation to a shuffle or 'upgrade' to the added memory, which is a joke tbh. the 16GB 3GS is being released at the same price as the 16GB 3G when it was released... surely with 'advancements' in techonology the 16GB should be sold as the 'new' 8GB and the 32GB 3GS the same as the 16GB 3G. This is where O2 have really f*cked up IMO. Extortion.
I can't see the current 3G model being phased out until iPhone 4G next year
