The only way to tell externally is that the writing on the back is silver now, like the apple, not grey as before. Plus they never sold the 3G with 32gb, obviously.

Surprised there isn't a S on it somewhere, but then I suppose there was never a 3G on the 3G either..

Has anybody's White 3Gs turned pink yet ?
Quite a good trick. Shame it's a severe fault found on a batch of phones along with poor battery life. Or has everyone kept theirs indoors under a fan during the recent warm weather.

Haha, you couldn't be anymore wrong. Battery life is very good, and my White 3GS has NO marks what so ever on it after a week now, then again it's already been proven to be some cases that are causing it. You are obviously an iPhone hater posting a troll comment.

Haha it is you that is wrong.

1. I'm not an Iphone hating troll you numbnut. People like you who just type away without even thinking or even looking things up first is whats giving Esato a bad rep making members new and old turn away from what used to be a good, friendly website.

2.I actually think the Iphone is a good device which could be even better if Apple listened to users comments. I also own 4 of them.

3. Apple has issued a warning stating that users of the 3Gs should not use the phone in temperatures of 35 degrees and over due to overheatng. It has also been reported by Apple that one of the effects of the temperature causes the white Iphone to turn a pink colour.

Report below taken from MSN dated Friday 3rd July 09:-

Apple faces a potential PR disaster, following its advice to iPhone owners to not use their new 3GS smartphones at temperatures over 35 degrees.

Which means those lucky enough to live in slightly hotter climes than us Brits might need to ensure they only use their iPhones when safely in the shade!

Apple issued the latest iPhone 3GS guidelines this week telling users to only operate their phone "in a place where the temperature is between 0 and 35 degrees."

Overheating, poor battery life

The advice from Apple follows numerous reports of iPhone 3GSs overheating, with some owners of the white iPhone 3GS claiming that the casing has turned pink due to the problem.

"My iPhone 3GS back gets somewhat warm when playing a few mins of games. Is this normal?" Asks one user on Apple's online forums, with a number of other users posting about similar problems.

A number of other users have posted about battery life issues with their new iPhone 3GSs.

"My guess is there's going to be a whole lot of batteries affected because these [iPhones] are from very large production runs," Aaron Vronko of iPhone repair outfit Rapid Repair, told The Telegraph .

"If you have a problem in the design of a series of batteries, it's probably going to be spread to tens of thousands [of device], if not hundreds of thousands, and maybe more."

Taken from Guardian.co.uk:-

Apple's new iPhone 3GS gets hot during usage, according to anecdotal reports that have begun to emerge on the web in the fortnight since the device was released - which seems to have prompted the company to issue a warning against leaving it inside cars in hot weather, and noting that the phone will throw up a temperature warning if it overheats.

The iPhone 3GS has a significantly faster central processor than its predecessor: while the iPhone 3G ran at 400MHz, the 3GS's chip functions at about 600MHz. But advances in chip technology in the intervening year should mean that the 3GS chip uses less power.

Even so, a number of users have said that the phone gets significantly hotter than the 3G model that was released in 2008. Melissa Perenson, a reporter for PC World, said that she noticed that when it was plugged into the wall to recharge that it became "Very, very hot -- not just on the back, but the entire length of the front face, too. I was using a game, and then later the Web browser for reading the news about Michael Jackson, all over a Wi-Fi connection while plugged in. And in those circumstances, well...toasty doesn't even describe how surprisingly hot it got. It was too hot to even put the phone against my face."

The clue may be that the iPhone's new battery becomes excessively hot while it is charging, especially if the phone is new and the battery has not been through a number of recharges.

Apple's only concession to the questions about hot operation come in its statement on its website, which notes that the automatic temperature warning may come on if you leave the device in a car on a hot day, leave it in direct sunlight for "extended amounts of time", or use certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time, such as GPS tracking in a car on a sunny day or listening to music while in direct sunlight.

Oh....and look. A warning from Apple:-

Keeping iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS within acceptable operating temperatures
Last Modified: June 25, 2009
Article: HT2101

Summary
Learn about the operating temperatures and temperature management of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Products Affected
iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

Operate iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to temporarily stop working properly.

Store iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

If the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:

The device stops charging
Display dims
Weak cellular signal
Temperature warning screen appears with the message "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it" (see image below)

This message appears when the operating temperature has become too hot. This is a safety mechanism that protects the components of your device. If this message appears, you should turn the device off, move it to a cooler environment, and allow it to cool before resuming use.

Note: When this message appears, the device may still be able to make emergency calls.

Some conditions and activities that may activate the Temperature warning message:

Leaving the device in a car on a hot day.
Leaving it in direct sunlight for extended amounts of time.
Using certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time, such as GPS tracking in a car on a sunny day or listening to music while in direct sunlight.
Safety Standards:
iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS comply with the safety standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment, IEC 60950-1.

This safety standard has been adopted by many countries and is referred to as the following:

UL 60950-1 in the United States
CSA 60950-01 in Canada
EN60950-1 in Europe
AS/NZS 60950:1 in Australia and New Zealand.

So back to you. Could I be anymore wrong ??????.............

@rookwise,

Well your post came across as a trolling comment, and none of what you posted makes any difference, the 'warning' you posted that Apple posted has been on it's website since the launch of the 3G, they just added the 3GS onto it, they BOTH display the temperature warning and that includes the warning of leaving it in hot cars so it's nothing new.
If you want to believe media spin then go ahead, me personally learn from what I see myself and I see my lovely white 3GS without ANY faults what so ever and it has NO discolouration either, as do hundreds of thousands of other 3GS, and I see you left the bit out where an Apple store tech cleaned the marks of someone's 3GS with alcohol because the users case marked it.
Enough from me on this subject cause as I said, my phones fine, I don't believe media spin.

Get a black one for sure

I've always maintained that the white one would be better if the whole thing was white - front face n all.
