@max_wedge: for opera mini 4.2, we use socket protocol to access the internet for free. We are also using proxies to download for free. We usually use proxies at port 3128. For mod versions of opera mini like v2.06, we configure the operamini server manually.

Hi guys, i wud like to share my experience. I hav both beta and final v installed. I had used beta for 1week and it was very fast in processing and loading pages. Just yesterday i tried the final v and i am going back to beta v. From what ive tested, the final v takes much more time for processing but same time for loading pages. I hav tried more than 10 diff pages and i found the beta to be 25% faster than the final v. In some cases it was 50% faster. Can someone confirm my test and check which one is faster?

On my phone, the final version is faster but not that much compared to the beta version.

@max_wedge: why are you making arguements on my post? Did i say that it's a feature of opera mini 4.2? I'm just saying that we can access the internet for free on opera mini 4.2 because we are using proxies.

I'm not meaning to argument your post, I'm just trying to clarify that free proxies, only work in some countries, and that configuring opera mini to get free internet will not give you free internet for the default browser (for that you will need to configure a phone data account with the free proxy and only in those countries were you can still use free proxies). (I admit when I look back no you didn't say opera mini can give free access for the default browser - sorry I misunderstood you)

Sorry buddy I didn't mean to offend, I'm only trying to clarify the situation.

besides I asked you how you do this and you tell me the theory, which i already fully understand (the concept of proxies is network 101 - I'm a network engineer btw) but you still didn't tell any actual proxy server addresses I can use to try this myself.

Always in the past when the free internet thing crops up and I've tried it on my phones (in Australia ) it never works. Usually people from other countries such as Europe, US etc also can't get it to work.

So I think only a few countries networks will actually allow free proxies.

Umm...
When I open YouTube, my phone says 'connected to media server' but then there's just a black screen which has the time of the video and the forward/rewind buttons and no buffering or anything else. Can someone help me?

@max_wedge: oh ok. Because my point is you could have read my post first before you made comments. I'm just sharing my experience on my phone. Anyway, that's fine. Let's forget about it. Going back, we can access the internet for free in opera mini if we are going to use any proxy at any port like 80 and 3128. For browsing on the default browser, we should use a proxy at port 8082 to browse for free. It also allows us to download for free on both opera mini and the default browser.

The best thing about using a proxy at port 8082 is that it allows us to use any app that requires internet access for free.

@max_wedge: yah, not all network providers allow proxies. You know we have one network here in the philippines that allows free internet access without tweaking any settings. I don't know if that network provider is aware of that.

@max_wedge: here's the proxy that i'm currently using, 212.93.193.83:8082. It's based in saudi arabia. It allows us free internet access to everything.

I really like Opera mini and I use Opera 9.62 on my laptop, but Opera still doesn't seem to have caught up with 's latest range of phones. Looking here, I cannot see any C-series, G-series, the latest such as W980, W902 and W595, the Z770/Z780 twins or even K660, K630 and V640i.

I use the W910i version for my V640i despite the 2.4" 320 x 240 resolution not matching my 1.9" 220 x 176 screen it works fine without any glitches. I intend getting a G705 or W705 soon and will probably continue using the W910i version of Opera Mini. What do you guys use for your A200 phones? And does Opera Mini auto-rotate like the useless Safari browser on my iPhone?
