[Q] Free usage of GPS on C905 ? |

Hello,
I like to know if there is a way to use the GPS without using the internet?
Since i got the phone without internet contract, i pay full price for every single kB.
Are there program's that only make use of the Internet GPS and don't need internet?
Thank you,

you will need the internet unfortunately because you need to load the maps, i dont think there is an application with preloaded maps because on PDA's they take up like 1gb memory |

^more different types of apps
you can also try nav4all,i dont know if many of these applications work with sony ericsson's
lataz all
edit:
ive been going throught trekbuddy quite abit now..and it seems to be the best application for offline/preloaded maps
you can make your own maps too - one of the applications features - you could call it a feature..
just go through the forums of the first link i gave for trekbuddy
and also use this one too
http://gm2tb.awokenmind.de/
very nice..it will be - i think - great with the c905 and any phone with gps.

How do you pre-load maps onto your memory card with Trekbuddy? |

Thank you both for the links to the GPS program's.
I have a question about Mobile GMaps;
When i choose my Country (The Netherlands, Europe) and add Belgium to that.. I generate a .MAP file and then go to the GMapMaker.
Then this program takes hoooours to complete and the maps that he downloaded from the Google server and that i'm supposed to put on my memory stick,, are more then 3GB .. is this normal for two rather small country's?
I choose for Zoom to Level 16 (street level).
Did i do something wrong that makes it so massively big or?
Let alone if i add Germany, i have to buy a new memory card xD |

man, zoom 16 is rather big.
for a small country as Armenia I use zoom edit - 13 (not 11) for the whole country (it's already ~200Mb)
then I have zoom 15 for my city (the capital) (~100Mb more)
so I have ~300Mb satellite maps.
note street maps are small in size - maybe 5 times (don't remember exactly)

Ah, i see why it's so big.
I did Zoom level 0 to 17.
Now i did Zoom level 7 to 17 and it's a lot smaller
..I need to zoom in so far since i have some rather small streets that are literally on each other and not very clear to see, specially on mobile screen
Edit
I thought that he was finishes, but i didn't saw those lines.
He is now at 400MB .. and started with line 2 of 26 lines.
will that be 400MB × 26 lines? :|
That's HUGE .. 10GB, or how does it work?
Thanks!

so as I understood you can have only a single map with single zoom level in mgmaps?
If that is true, you could try Trekbuddy, because there you have layers of maps with different zoom levels - like I said country - 11, city - 15 (or bigger)
This way your maps will be much smaller, as there are many areas, where you don't need high zooms definitely

sorry I didn't read carefully
I see that you have different zoom levels in MGmaps
but
let me describe Trekbuddy's structure
in Trekbuddy you can't zoom in or out, but you can choose layer.
first you choose layer - name it zoom level
then in a single layer you have maps, not a single rectangle map, but many rectangle maps of different areas that do not intersect.
This means for layer called 'country' you'll have level 11, and you'll have zoom 17 layer called 'street' that does not cover the whole country, resulting small size on disc.
hope this helps

i'm new to this so can anyone do an idiots guide as how to create maps for trekbuddy and put them on to my phones memory so i can use them offline.
i put the maps in the maps folder but when selecting them i get an error message-[7] null:invalud map selrction[null]:failed to load tile:java.io.IO Exception |

i tried both mgmaps and trekbuddy yet mgmaps is so much better 4 me.
Tip: When DLing maps with gMapMaker , choose 64 tiles per file and u will get much les files (faster copy on card).
Use zoom 16 only for cities, for most stuff 15 is good enough. |
