Hello people. Can you help me? I am soon to buy a new phone but cant decide. I am torn between the W760 or W890. All the features these phones have i want but which is better performance wise and not just in music. Reliability call quality music quality camera and menu speed. Things like that. I love the styling of both but prefer the way the new menu looks in the W760 its the best menu system around right now in my opinion. But whats the quality of build for the W760 plus the keys are they solid. Thanks. |

Hi there,
I have had my W760i for about two weeks now and I'm very pleased with the phone. I got this phone as a replacement for my broken P1i and I have to say that I was a bit skeptic at first since this is a totally different phone than the business-oriented P1i, but it has grown on me and now I will never go back!
The W760i is a sleek and very good looking phone that performs well and has a gorgeous menu interface. The menu interface though can sometimes get (partly) sluggish due to all the animations that are part of the interface (the delay is mostly under or near a second). I personally don't think this is anything that detracts from the overall enjoyment of the phone. This is my first Walkman phone and I will never go back to having separate mobile phone and mp3 player. The added shake-to-change-song feature and the internal accelerometer is wonderful.
The downside about the phone is the camera which does not have autofocus, which my P1i had, neither does it sport any kind of lighting for the camera - but hey this is a music phone and not a camera phone The photos taken by the W760i is mainly suitable for sending over MMS or uploading to Facebook, Twitter etc. and nothing that you would actually like to print out on photo paper. Another thing that may be a problem in the future is the keyboard which seems a bit flimsy. It's also sometimes hard to tell the buttons apart when you're not looking at them and just feeling with your thumb, but it's not something that should keep you away from getting this great phone.

Hi, i currently don't own any of the phones, but i was in the same situation you are and finally i've decided to go with the W760 over the W890...
Here's why:
The W760 features a bigger screen than W890 (2.2 Inches vs 2.0 Inches), also feature an accelerometer, which is used, among other things, for automatically rotating the display, so if you put your phone in landscape, the walkman player or the video you're currently watching, adjusts to the phone position... the stereo speakers seem to be better placed in the W760 and also it features HSDPA and GPS, i'm not sure if the W890 has HSDPA, but i'm sure that it doesn't have GPS...
The only two things i liked more about the W890 where that it is thinner and that it sports the Cybershot User Interface for the camera, which is better than the traditional portrait UI Sony Ericsson includes in other phones, such as the W760..
According to this, they sport pretty much the same camera module:

EDIT: So, i finally decided to go with the W760, maybe in about 10-15 days it will be mine...

The W890i does have HSDPA.
I have the W760i and think it's an excellent phone. I agree that the menus can be a bit sluggish at times but not to the point it's a problem. The GPS is a bonus too and quite handy with Yahoo Maps - couldn't get the GPS to work with Google maps though, only the mast positioning?
I'd go with the W760i, it's good value for money, and does almost as much as the N95 it replaced. The camera is good though not excellent, I did get some pretty good shots with it though when I went to Amsterdam, ideal for uploading to Facebook too!

Every thing is great with the W760 BUT the materials on w760 feel cheep and look plasticky the w890 however has extremeley nice materials used. I have a w760 and the bump on the back scratches easily, the lisp can be annoying to some when typing, dust can build up on the edges of the screen. UI is better on w760, but when you hold a W890 then a W760 you feel as if it is worth 10p cheap plasticky and toy . After buying W760 i wish i bought w890, the UI changes are marginall. |

Cheers for that it was helpful. I am still torn between both phones. Im more for the W760 but i also like the W890 but have read bad reports about its signal being poor and dropped calls. Also the battery being bad. Does anyone know of this or has it been corrected in later firmware. Thanks. |

I have had exactly the same problem. Good (?) to know that I'm no the only one having this experience. Hopefully there will be a fix for it soon.

Do you need GPS or not?
If yes go for W760, otherwise I recommend you the w890.
Personally, I think that W890 has better build quality then W760.

I have no use for GPS no. But do you actually have a W890i and how is the signal on it and does it drop calls from what i read? If so has it been fixed i just dont wanna end up with a bad phone. |

I would avoid the W760i simply to avoid the nasty portrait camera interface, and to not have a slider. My W910i's slider was fine for the first few months and then it started scratching the paint off! And I don't think I could live with the portrait camera interface after my last 4 SE phones have had the Cyber-shot style one which is so much better! So W890i is what I'd have.
I haven't tried either of these phones though, so my opinion is based solely on specs and form factors. I must also say that I really don't like the W760i's looks...

One thing I know for sure. W760's screen is superb. Way more superb than any other A200 phones (incl. W890).

Yeah I've heard that before. I think it's because the W760i doesn't have a light sensor, so the screen is always at the same brightness, like it never gets automatically dimmed.

Oh my bad. I actually did research for my post and I couldn't see a light sensor so I assumed there wasn't one! I didn't realise it would be hidden like that!

I don't have signal problems. I've read about other people having signal issues but not on mine. In fact, my P1 has a fluctuating signal compared to the stable W890i and it affects the call quality.
