I'm sure this guy is more interested in getting his N95 and £60 back than selling the imitation. That might come later.....

Iain,
Have you not got his address if he had your N95 plus money to him? Not Hangman resurfaced is it?

Does the imitation work, and how well did they copy it?

I'm always amazed at how fast and sometiems very accurate the Chinese can copy stuff, like the iPhone clones.

Good luck getting your N95 and money back mate.

These imitations usually work ok for calls and texts, but they miss the more advanced options of the original, so they're being sold way too expensive, as they're not "the real thing".

Btw, it's possible to find the senders' I.P. address in Hotmail, but you need to have a Hotmail account yourself :

edit: the scammer's now also selling a N95:

Googling his phone number, I've found another ad, dated 21.10., this time on Edinburgh Gumtree (Irvine), where he writes "made in korea", but again with the picture of the real Nokia N96:

hi,
one thing to note there is
a) chinese fakes which are imitations: these will not have GPS, 5 megapixel camera (check the camera pic settings), no wifi, and will not accept standard nokia codes like *#0000#

b) there is the asian nokia stock which is original but made in china but uses slightly inferior parts to european stock.

you need to determine which it is.

I will warn you though that gumtree is full of people selling fake stuff. I used to buy off gumtree before and used to sell my items on gumtree before.

You can get some unsavoury charachters buying stuff from you and at the same time many people use it for scamming as once they have your cash they can disappear withour repurcussions as you don't know where they live and normally the no they are using is a pay as you go no which will go dead soon after the deal. a friend of mine bought some phones on gumtree and after collecting them three days later they all got barred and the no he was calling was dead.
ebay allows some protection via paypal and also ebay has contact details of sellers and esato is a feedback based system so has some security but gumtree is a different ball game. However I have to balance my statement and say on the whole 99% of my dealings on gumtree have been very pleasant.

regards Yasman

Surprisingly he is proving rather difficult to get hold of, I am considering calling from another mobile and arranging a meeting to buy another one and getting whatever I can back from him. His response when I text him was try and sell it on gumtree. I bet the n95 he is selling is my bloody one.

Gutted!!!

PS Thanks Marly for the IP Address stuff I got it sorted, I know his IP if anyone here is capable of messing with him and finding some useful info on his pc, drop me an im.

The ad with the N95 is gone now, might be sold already, or he's been reading the topic here.

Found another victim : http://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/80/30277380.html
Maybe you should contact him and compare the info you have on the scammer.
