I have a P1i, purchased it mainly for
surfing net through my college's WiFi network. But I'm unable to configure my
phone for this. Please help me. Here is some info that may be
important for you in providing me help.
My college has a WiFi network that is an unsecured infrastructure
network. It doesn't use any encryption technique and requires a
username and password for accessing net.
On a laptop running Windows XP I took following steps for configuring
my computer.
1. Opened network connections from control panel then double clicked
the Wireless Network Connection icon under the category LAN or High
Speed Internet.
2. Then I clicked Refresh Network List in the left pane. My college's
network appeared. I selected it and clicked Connect.
3. Then I went back to Network Connections. There I clicked "Create a
new connection" in the left pane. In the wizard I proceeded as
follows:
Connect to the Internet
Setup my connection manually
Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password
4. Then I entered ISP name and in next screen username and password
And this connection works fine on my laptop and shows itself as WAN
Miniport(PPPoE).
But on my P1i I can't see anywhere PPPoE or anything in a WLAN
internet setting that asks for a username and password. On scanning, I find my college network and get successfully connected to it but can't surf the net without using the username & password.
I hope, the above information is enough for you to help me in
configuring my phone.
Waiting for a response. |

I'm not sure but I think that there is no way to enter the login details for an unsecured WLAN network in the WLAN account of a UIQ3 phone.
But, once connected, you should be able to access the login page of your network via P1i's Opera web browser (Menu > Multimedia > Web) and enter your login details there.
And afterwards you should be able to use the connection for all your internet activites (web, e-mail, IM, etc.)
