Speaker problem is covered by Nokia warranty and repaired in 20min so don't be afraid!
But this phone is not as fantastic as people think:
-Poor screen in sunlight
-Poor games compared to Iphone
-Slow photo browser
-Awfull look(will get you on your nerves with time)
-Not finger touch (but finger nail)
-Battery unstable, can vary from 18h to 36h with the same exact use!
-Camera not acceptable in low light even for the minimum demanded quality(and I am not a fan of photo-phones)

Results: after 3 weeks of 5800 I am gonna switch to the real king...the Iphone

After hearing all these complaints about the 5800 I was actually pleasantly surprised by the phone itself, this one is running v11 which seems a big step up from v10 reading the changelog.

The only niggle I have at the moment is that the accelerometer doesn't work very well, it's a bit hesitant to rotate at times and the alarm clock crashed which I think was down to this feature as well. I've read very mixed views on the touchscreen so I assume there is some bad hardware out there, this one works fine with fingers - it only needs fingernail touches for software that has tiny buttons such as the BBC Iplayer.

I don't really understand the constant comparisons between this and the IPhone, they're both touchscreen devices but they're quite different. The Iphone is more of a flashy fashion phone which is lacking in many areas whereas the 5800 is more basic in use but a far more functional device. I would never consider an Iphone with its current hardware and software whereas I'm quite pleased with the 5800. Just depends what you're looking for in a phone.

Is it me or the 5800 is more than the officially given 14.4mm thick??
My old k850 seems to be as fat!!
I will measure it but I think it's more 16mm than 14.4
Iphone all the way

this phone isn't really a upgrade for me is it guys?
I mean this thing hasn't got nothing different over my N95-2 has it?

btw it's a pretty cheap phone im amazed it's only £249.99 sim free of Nokia

I had an N95 when they first came out and got rid because I had got so used to Touch Screen and the slider was getting floppy after just 30odd days.

I now have the 5800XM and have to say its great and the sound is amazing! but you are right apart from Touch interface it does not have any functional advantage over the N95 but it does not have a sloppy slider either!
This is what a certain "fruit manufacturers" device would just love to be!

I agree the N95-1 has a dodgey slider but then Nokia brought out the Black 1 and ive had that a year and ive had no problems with it in that way,

only kak thing is how Nokia bringout these kakky updates which I hate lol
the 5800 is nice but I think i'd be stupid to replace my N95-2 with it,
it's a downgrade lol

The problem with the 5800 is its design!!!
It's so stupi*ly designed that yes compared to a N95/N96 and C905 it's like comparing a Skoda to a BMW
Some people say that it's done in purpose so people will still get the N97,but even the N97 has a similar design(but perhaps different materials)

I will try again a C905 for 24h,if I like it I will swap my 5800!
I bought an ipod touch so I will not miss the touch and apps

Having my first serious look at the 5800 tonight before my son gets its, or my wife as there is now a bit of competition for it! and actually after the first hour I'm fairly impressed

its not as big as I imagined from the pics and its a good implementation.

Mind you I've only done some basics like the initial setup and configuring wifi and t-mob data and connected to the web to browse esato, viewed a video and checked out some pics, but so far I quite like it.

so far I also haven't had to use the stylus which is what I hoped.

strange sim card setup though... straight insert from the side but instead of being able to push and click it out the same way you have to open the back cover and remove the battery and use the stylus or a pen to slide the sim out. weird.

anyway... more to discover and if I like it more I may well be tempted by the N97, or... perhaps neither son or wife will get this

I personally think the 5800 is a cracking wee phone, its has a nice design and the menu system is really well implemented.

It has really made me think about getting the n97 in the summer.

hmmm, its the first device that doesn't seem to like my iphone headset

it initially offered the headset option but sound was muffled and since then it just says unsupported device.

my mdr's work fine though, sound is good!

I do dislike having to constantly choose the wifi connection, it really should be the default without prompting if I am in range

gps seems responsive, even sitting in the lounge with the curtains drawn

not convinced by the haptics, sometimes it makes it feel like the housing is loose but perhaps thats just something to get used to

also, I haven't quite figured out the taps yet. sometimes it seems a single tap is enough to select something and other times a double tap is required, if there is a rule for this I haven't sussed it yet

will spend tomorrow checking the rest out but so far still impressed by this offering

as my son claimed the first 5800 I got another one from ebay which had originated from O2.

It was locked and didn't appear to be branded but it had an O2 product code and so couldn't be updated to the latest V20 firmware.

It seems NSS which I used on the N95 to change product code doesn't work with the 5800 yet but I found a guide on the net and did it no problem and subsequently updated to V20

I have to say I really do like this phone

Yes, NSS gets automatically disabled by Nokia Update Service these days, the gits......

Do you have a link for your method, chap??
