sorry..get off topic...nowadays it seem only SE and Samsung on the megapixel war while Nokia and LG seem to be following or something hot are brewing in their design centre?
Motorola ...well don't know. Everyone is into 8 megapixel war...they only join the 5megapixel gang.
but I notice one thing....it seem like even Samsung don't really provide much phone with optical zoom. As if the optical zoom war is over or it never get started |

Conflicting information in Sony's announcement. They announced two sensors. The 1/3.2" is an 8 MP while the 12 MP is 1/2.5" (thank goodness!).
The 8 MP may be the one used in the C905!

NO it's not the same sensor
Because the two modules ( 8.11 Mp & 12.24 Mp ) claimed to be industry’s smallest and thinnest in their class
And we all know that does not apply on the c905

Thankfully it does not since the C905 has a better 1/2.8, whatever candybar they stick that new 8mp sensor in simply won't be as good in lowlight as the c905.

What is your source for this? Are you sure this is the sensor size and not the aperture?

Yes, I meant the aperture. |

The camera module may not be the same but SE maybe used the same sensor inside a different, more bulkier camera module.

In my opinion, having 12 mega pixels camera in the phone is pointless.
If you want to make a clear picture for a huge paper, would you even use the phone's camera?! Nah. You would want to use some professional camera.. This is just a mega pixels competition in the market now. |

The more megapixels, the clearer the pcture in smaller resolutions.
It's never about the full-size photos.

I hope they've improved the optics. Either way, we have a real race on our hands.
