Does anyone know of a proper alternative to Sony Ericsson's horrendous Media Manager software?

I mainly use it to manage podcasts on my phone, but it being the worst piece of software ever written I'm wondering if there is a replacement that can subscribe to podcasts and load them to the phone.

Media Manager usually crashes at least once and only detects the phone every other time before I manage to do the sync. It also requires my phone to be in "file transfer mode" meaning I cannot take phone calls during sync.

PS. The phone in question is a W890i

IMHO, SE's Media GO software v1.1 SUCKS as SE can NOT create decent media software for the phones!

Please bear my tirade as I list why Media GO SUCKS:

1. You MUST import songs by setting up "library folders"
- Then Import them via Tools - Import assistant

2. Drag n Drop does NOT WORK when dragging files from PC into Media GO!
- Media GO on left screen, WinExplorer on right side, highlight files on right then try to Drag into Media GO
- Media GO will NOT LET YOU DO SO!!
- Can't create BOTH a folder and playlist then drop in files

3. Video Conversion is a Bitch as it takes a L-O-N-G time to convert to mp4 format
- Again, the video folder must be defined under "library folders" first then it's imported into Media GO under original format (i.e. Avi, Mov, Mpeg, Mkv)
- It'll first convert then transfer to phone's media card
- Conversion of a basic movie file took OVER 1 HOUR while it took > 30 minutes to transfer via USB
- WTF?!!

4. Drag n Drop will ONLY work WITHIN Media GO:
a. Music folder
- Create playlist
b. Drag playlist onto phone's media card

Why can't Media GO work like iTunes, which was the SE's main, original purpose of creating the software?!

Most of my files are under iTunes folder along with many videos as well as other folders.
Media GO was able to import files and existing iTunes playlists! OK! At least that's correct!

There's NO synchronization ... IF you UPDATE any new songs (i.e. import) into iTunes, it WON'T appear in Media GO!
To do... delete ALL playlists within MediaGo, then Reimport the ENTIRE music/video collection AGAIN on EVERY iTunes music update!!

5. Where's the "list" view?
- Layout button only has: Details, Tiles and Icons
- IF you have a MASSIVE collection of files, it's EASIER to find stuff using "LIST" view which iTunes has!

6. Media Store should be removed as there's really nothing to offer, especially in North America!
- There's really nothing there!!

7. File transfer from Media GO to phone's media card is Pathetically SLOW!
- iTunes is FASTER with file transfers to the iPods!

Many people would say...
"Stop complaining!"
"Just Drag n Drop files from PC into phone's media card"!
"Why even bother with Media GO?"

Issues with Drag n Drop files into phone's media card:

1. NO album art encoding/support

2. NO playlists as you MUST create playlists IN the phone
- If you transfer 20-30 files of songs, creating a playlist for EACH folder is a BITCH as it's time consuming and frustrating!

3. Why bother having a playlist selection if you do NOT create playlists?
- Hate going into Media player then select a folder to play when I prefer playlists
- Personally love compilations of music, hence, the love of playlists
- Others may not care and just play each folder which is generally an artist or album from same artist

Anyway....

Main gripe....
NO Drag N Drop support in Windows environment from PC into Media GO!
What's the point of the software?!

MANY users have noted on various online forums that SE's Media software SUCK and I totally agree!!
Funny thing is, it's actually better than the previous Media Manager software, but not by much!

w890i and w995 are good phones (as I have both) but come with lousy media software!

Best thing to do IS to drag n drop files from PC into phone's media card! Just don't expect to use album art feature.
Also, you'll have to create playlists directly in the phone and, depending on the number of folders, it will be time consuming and frustrating!

Tried using Win Media Player but also very frustratingly difficult to use when importing files and creating playlists/folders and transferring music!

I'm spoiled with Apple's iTunes as I consider it one of, if not, THE best media software to use!
So simple!
This is what Media GO should have been for SE phones!

Maybe... SE will improve Media GO since it's currently v1.1, but, knowing SE.... Forget it!!

This is an example of why SE is known as an arrogant company, which makes products based on what SE thinks not what people thinks! No wonder SE isn't doing so well financially!!

At least SE FINALLY updated and corrected the Update media software as those previous versions for the older Models SUCKED as well. The newer version makes updating the firmware so much easier! SE finally did something Correct with one of their software!

media go is alot better than media manager. Media manager was actually completely pointless and crashworthy.

Media Go only crashes when you have non-itunes aac encoded files!! Actually not all, but I have about 10 aac tracks in my collection that crash Media Go. All my other 1000 or so work fine. But it was a bugger working out which tracks were causing the crashing! I had to move files into the library folder (via windows explorer) one by one and check each time to see if media go was going to crash then try the next one. I actually did it in batches of about 20 eachtime, but it still took a while!

Media Go uses the quicktime encoder so it doesn't always deal with non-itunes AAC so well. Mind you I have some crappily encoded AAC tracks so I probably can't complain.

The video conversion is useful but not perfect. If it thinks the video will play it won't convert, it will just transfer, yet some transferred videos don't play on the phone. So I have to convert outside of media go (not a bad thing) using super (c), in which case I might as well just copy the video via usb or bluetooth without bothering with media go.

However media go is good at updating missing track info, and I prefer using media go for music library and playlist management compared to itunes, with the added bonus that I can actually synch playlists to my phone. This is good!

Walkman Video Converter, one of the best video converter for walkman software, that could easily convert MP4, H.264, AVI, MP3, WMV, WMA, flv, MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, 3GP, 3GPP, VOB, DivX, Mov, M4A, AAC, WAV, etc to Walkman with super fast speed and excellent image and sound quality.

iTunes + Salling media Sync - works like a charm (I use it for podcasts)!
It is free, the only con of free version is "delete & copy again" annoyance - even if I've listened to some episode of podcast in my phone, it still uploads it to phone next time I sync. And of course annoying feature of iTunes - you must play at least a little some episode of every subscribed podcast, so it doesn't stop downloading it.

After all, this was the best solution I've found. Now I just plug in my phone and it automatically sync my podcasts with phone (they really appear in Podcast section of phone's media player)

I have C702.
